decisions

I own a rg2ex1 but don't really like the tone(its got the emg inspired pups). I play a lot of metal/hardcore but also do want a decent clean tone as my tastes change frequently. I'm trying to decide between a rga42 and a rg1451(used). Any thoughts or recommendations? I want a fairly versatile guitar and don't really want to spend 500-600 bucks and then another 200 on new pickups just to make it sound decent. Thanks!

Re: decisions

Have you thought about just upgrading the pickups maybe? Do you like the guitar other than the pickups?

Re: decisions

I really like the guitar other than the pickups so that may be the best solution. However, I have no idea what pickups would be ideal for my guitar. I want the best of both worlds...a great metal tone but still have a good clean tone. I've looked at the dimarzio and seymour duncan websites but its hard to tell what pickups are going to sound like by reading a description. I thought the D-activators might be good but then i found some reviews where people hated them. So, I looked at the blackouts but read that a clean tone is near impossible. If anybody has any recommendations for pickups I would love to hear them.

Re: decisions

D Activators would be great for the sound you are after. I'd go with those.

Re: decisions

Thanks for the advice...seems like the cheapest(and probably easiest)way get a better tone. I'll let you know how they sound.
