Difference between JEM and RG550

What's the difference, besides the pickups, between a JEM and an RG550 that makes the JEM a better guitar? My RG550 have the Edge tremolo.

Thanks.

Re: Difference between JEM and RG550

Nothing, besides the signature and materials used. I doubt that they put extra detail into the Jems.

Indeed, just the overall looks plus there's a slightly different neck on the jem which isn't better, but just different.

Pickups are better on Jem. Coloured control knobs. There's of course the monkey grip handle. Vine or pyramid inlays. Lion claw trem cavity. Recessed input socket. Colours. That's pretty much it. Maybe the Jem comes with a case too?

Re: Difference between JEM and RG550

I find that JEM's are definately a whole 'nother beast. I love RG550s. I have three of them, and the necks are great. . . but something about the JEM necks is just perfect. Its not the thickness, its the quality of the fretboard wood and workmanship. There is a difference.

Plus all the real obvious differences.

I'm sure that there have been threads on here before discussing the differences between Jems and RGs. If only the forum had some way of searching for them.

Re: Difference between JEM and RG550

So whats wrong with someone else asking?

With DiMarzio's in a 550, it plays and sounds like a jem. The rest of the jem is just asthetic.

Nothing, it's just that the same questions get the same set of answers time and again. I suspect that Bujecas could answer all of his/her questions and learn a lot more by a quick search.

Anyway, dependant on the model, the Jem's neck is completely different to play

Re: Difference between JEM and RG550

I find my 777 neck to have a fat vintage feel, like my RG505.
My 77 BFP and FP feel slim, nice.
My 7PBK and 7VWH are the slimmer ones, but the 520 and two 550's I have are just as slim.

I've got a roadstar series too (Edge and HSS layout), with the slimmest ever neck on it!
