Difference between RG450LTD and RG550LTD???

Topic basically..

I noticed both of them was released as DAB, Dark Adriatic Blue..

Just need to know the differences so that I don't purchase a 450 thinking its a 550 - that would be like buying a bungalow and realizing you just bought a doll-house..

The reason I ask is because the guitar in question is not covered by gr8 pictures and I can't really tell if it's a 550, and was just wondering if there is any dead giveaways..

Re: Difference between RG450LTD and RG550LTD???

theres a 45ltd on here...pics in this thread...

http://www.jemsite.com/forums/f18/ng...-107385-2.html

it looks like the trems are different as the only 550ltds ive found have the edge lo pro trem and yet the 450ltd in the thread above has an edge pro...so maybe that's the difference?...i'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be around shortly lol...d.m.

Re: Difference between RG450LTD and RG550LTD???

I had a 450LTD in Galaxy Black. Most important differences would be that it had the Edge Pro rather than lo-pro, and Wizard II neck rather than super wizard on the 550LTD. It also had a square input jack plate rather than the circular inset jack that the 550 had. I would imagine they had different pickups too but can't be certain.

Depending on the price, and whether you can deal with the thicker, rounder Wizard II, the 450LTD is absolutely no slouch. Mine was a very nice guitar.

You have it right other than the pickups. They both had the V7/V8 combo.

The 450LTD above was mine and is now LonePhantoms. It's been through a few changes, but it's still rockin'.

In this ONE case, there's no reason to consider the 450 a "doll house" to the 550's "bungalow". For all purposes, one is exactly as good as the other.

easy..

the 550 LTD will always had a Lo pro edge.

the 450 will have either lo TRS or Edge pro depending on year.

that is the dead giveaways.

I dunno I think the lo trs would be better because you can just switch it out for a Gotoh OFR, At least I think you can, am I right about that?

You think it would be better to have the Lo-TRS than an Edge Pro?

The same Edge Pro that came on countless prestige, signature, and J-custom guitars?

Never owned any lo trs before, well maybe except for one time I owned RGRT47DX.
But i don't think it's the same TRS with the 450.

So i have no clue for TRS.

That's not what I meant. If it's possible to take out the Lo trs and direct drop a Gotoh OFR (I remember hearing that you can direct drop a Gotoh OFR or OE/LP in a lo trs cavity), then I would choose Lo TRS. Otherwise, of course I would take the edge pro.

So you would take the Gotoh over an EP?

Well I've never used an EP, so all I can go on is speculation on how good it is. Also, I've really wanted to try a Gotoh OFR.

Fair enough.... I was just trying to figure out your train of thought. Most people wouldn't pick anything other than an EZ, ED, or LP over the EP. As we all know, the EP is equal to each of these trems.

Well, I DO want a guitar with an EP, but I'm looking at an RG1520A in Phantom blue like my 1550. I've also seen a couple 1550M PBLs with the EP around used as well. None of em near me sadly. I have 3 LPs as it is, with 2 EZs and my german OFR on my Carvin, so a Gotoh OFR would be so I could compare it to the German OFR and also to the OE/LP. Just for some variety.

Re: Difference between RG450LTD and RG550LTD???

The Edge Pro is a great bridge. Your loss.

Back to the topic at hand, is this an Asia and South America market guitar? I was completely unaware of ANY RG4XX MIJ guitars after 1994.

People already mentioned the input jack plate, but the 550LTD and 450LTD would be nowhere near eachother in terms of production years. 550LTD was a mid-90's product, sold after the 700 Series was retired. Any guitar with an Edge Pro like this would date it as 2003-07 (with a few exceptions in later years). By that point there was no longer a guitar called the RG550. It would be the RG1550 and there were no LTD versions of that.

Upon closer inspection you might see some differences in the inlays. Any original sharktooth neck uses a silver material like the dots for the inlays. Later MIK and MII guitars use a fake pearloid material. This being an MIJ neck, I don't know what you'd find.

Well the only guitar near me that has the EP is an RG2550M in galaxy black, but it is pretty worn down looking. I saw it on Sunday when I walked through Ishibashi. I would rather have that RG1520A, which has it, but it's not cheap and at Kurosawa so I can't even go to try it out.
