Differences in sound in a 7 string version of normal PU

I've been looking for replacement pups, and I knew what I wanted until I read DiMarzio's product page for it's 7buckers. Everything is labelled as being a completely different Pup rather than the same sound as the 6 sting version it was based off of, which is probably the least helpful thing in trying to find a pickup. The pups I was looking at mostly were the the Evo 7 and the AN7 because I love way the normal Pups sound together, but how do the 7 strings sound compared to the normal ones?

I'd assume they'd sound as close as possible to the normal pup, but i'm simply not sure.

Thanks in advance for disproving/proving true my paranoia.

I have replaced both Ibby's: 7620 w/Duncan Super distortion, lots of punch, no mud
7420 w/ToneZone 7 & AirNorton 7, good mids-not nasal on Tz, A7 is like a violin (best soloing sound). For me, I paid close attention to bass control on the preamp to stay out of the mudzone. Norton neck is my new fav. tone now... had been searching for a long time...who knew Good luck & have fun!!!

Evo 7 and Air Norton 7 are a fantastic combo -- I used them in nearly every Ibanez 7 I owned (I no longer own Ibanez... Carvin now).

The Tone Zone 7 is an all-around awful pickup. Nothing like its 6 counterpart. Never had a single tone that I liked with it.

I agree.

I do find that the dimarzio 6s and 7s sound and respond quite differently though. I think the Evo6 sucks in basswood (sterile, lifeless), but really like the Evo7 in basswood.

Evo 7 is ****, I've decided. Good if you're noodling, not for any serious driven metal sound.

*puts on nerd glasses*

I can get into gross detail if needed, but heres the sesame street version

the amount of coils and the distance between them, together with the magnet is what allows you to create the current required for an electric signal. So if the pickups use the same magnet, same coils, but spread out further, it should produce a SIMILAR, but weaker sound. But to counteract that, they may change the number of windings or the magnet strength to compensate (Which again, would probably change the tone)
