Dimarzios in a Carvin???

does anyone here have dimarzio, or any aftermarket pickups in a carvin guitar??

I have a DC400C with active electronics... that is my least favorite sounding carvin guitar that I own. I'd love to change up to something with a litte more bite.

Anyone have anything to share on this topic??

Re: Dimarzios in a Carvin???

Depends on what kind of tone you want. You can always try a set of the new Dimarzio D-ActivatorX pickups (it's not on the dimarzio website yet, but it'll be coming out soon). Otherwise a set of Breeds, or the Air Norton/Air Zone combo.

I believe some folks over at the dimarzio forum have put Dimarzio's in Carvin's before. You can always check there to see if anyone has any advice to give you.

Re: Dimarzios in a Carvin???

I have two DiMarzios in my DC131 (H-S DC127). In the neck I have a Chopper, and in the bridge there's an X2N. Before X2N, I had a Tone Zone in there.

I will say that I LOVE the Chopper. It's exactly what I want: thicker and beefier than a traditional single coil, but with more punch and brightness than a full-size humbucker.

I liked the Tone Zone in there, but I honestly just got tired of it. The X2N is a serious metal pickup - almost like an EMG. Pinch harmonics just fly out of it.

My Carvin is all mahogany with just a clear coat and tung oil on the neck. I use this guitar for tooling around with hair metal and prog stuff.

Cheers,
Danny

Re: Dimarzios in a Carvin???

was wondering about the carvin you have. Is it passive pickups with an active eq/pre-amp built in? Or the active/passive as they call them?

Re: Dimarzios in a Carvin???

It is the first model of active electronics with Eq/ and preamp... It is not capable of passive opperation..

So, yes I will have to completely rewire the guitar with new volume and tone pots and a new switch.

Passive pickups, with active tone controls.

Re: Dimarzios in a Carvin???

I've got a Duncan Custom (br) and a Dimarzio Air Norton (neck) in my V220, and they sound great! I also have a Dimarzio Super 3 I had in there for awhile, and it was pretty good, too.
