Do I have an RG750 or RG550?
Recently picked up another "vintage" RG. Quite curious as to what exactly it may be. Made in Fujigen in 1990, it's an RG with a maple fretboard with center black dots, pickguard, Edge, and IBZ/USA F series pickups. At first I thought it was an RG750 with a maple fretboard, but I haven't found any catalog scans from 1990 or 1991 that list a maple version of the RG750. Upon tearing it apart for some cleaning and restoration, I looked at the stamps in the neck pocket. They both say RG-550.
I know all the Wizard necks from that era were badged RG-550 M, but did the 550 and 750 share the same body stamp as well?
So I either have a rare RG750 with a maple fretboard, or an RG550 with F series pickups. Seems kind of odd that someone would change out a 550's pickups for F series, rather than DiMarzio's or whathaveyou. Likewise, it would be equally as odd for someone to have swapped out the neck with a 550.
I know that the 5XX and 7XX were made side by side, using the same woods, so I know I have the same quality either way. I'm more after satisfying my curiosity.
