Do you feel comfortable buying online?

I'm thinking about buying an amp online that is
not available locally. Do you feel comfortable
ordering online from places like Musicians Friend,
Music123, etc?

With today's technology, you have no reason not to. Encryption algorithms protect data really well, and I'm sure there is some sort of standard out there for it all.

And from a large warehouse like MF, I'm sure they're very reputable (at least on the business side of things. )

I have no problem with ordering online whatsoever. As long as your CreditCard company has a policy that protects you from fraud, then I think you're okay. Had such a thing happen to me once, and the CC company was cooperative, no problem.

The only thing I'm not happy with is the outrageous shipping fees that some companies charge. Music12x for example, charge shipping per item, rather than on a "package". I don't see options for it either.

I've got pretty positive experiences with buying things online. If you live in Europe and order things from the US you can get a 20% "bonus" with taxes, apart from the normal shipping costs. Nevertheless most things are pretty worthwile, it just sucks that there are a few big stores that don't ship outside the US.

The nice thing about paying with CC (mostly Paypal with online transaction) is that you pay later

Online transactions are more secure than, say, buying over the phone (work in an office with co-workers close by?) or paying by credit card at a restaurant (waiters can do anything with your card while it's out of your sight).

I have no problem with buying online from legit retailers. eBay is getting a little more dodgy, though.

i am totally comfortable, the RG350DXWH isn't available in u.k and i imported it from music12x.com and it cost me £300 inc. shipping and customs of £45. If it was available in U.K, i am sure it would be £400

I don't really have a problem with the buying part so much, I mostly worry about the shipping.

One I time I ordered a RG3120 with a M100 case, and when I got it, there was a fair sized puncture hole in the box, and a corresponding hole in the case itself!

I have trouble imagining what could have happened during transit where the box and case could have been impaled with that amount of force.

1) Look for the little yellow lock on your browser status bar to make sure that the transaction is encrypted

2) Make sure they don't e-mail you your credit card number with the confirmation/receipt. My friend had his # stolen this way

3) Make sure they have a decent return policy. I picked up one of those 2002 blow-out JS's, only to have to exchange it because of dead frets. This is probably the riskiest part - are you sure you want to buy a product so inherently hard to quality control as a guitar w/o trying it first.

This last point is why I'd probably buy from someone like Rich if it came to another > $500 guitar purchase. He does the worrying (fretting, heh) about quality for you.

I have personally ordered from MF online many times and have had no problems whatsoever. I did however think I was having a problem when I placed an order, saw it billed to my credit card, and some time later,(4-5 weeks) still had not recieved anything. Well I called them up, and it turns out that some of the items were backordered and to save on shipping they were waiting for the backordered items so that they could ship it all at once.
