Do you know HALO?

Anybody out there able to give some feedback on Halo guitars? The construction looks sound on paper- never played one. Their custom shop looks sick! You guys are the best source for info, so I thought I'd ask.

Re: Do you know HALO?

The next time I go up to Houston, maybe for Thanksgiving, I plan on checking them out for a custom guitar.

But their production guitars look cheap and are really ugly.

Tony Smotherman is endorsed by them I believe, and I got to check his out, and it's not a bad guitar at all.

Re: Do you know HALO?

I think they are just average quality Korean guitars, nothing too special. I've never, ever heard anyone rave about them for all the people who've posted they've played them. Not a single one. I've seen a number of reviews that absolutely trash them as well. I think you'd be much, much better off getting a standard production model of a good guitar than getting a custom version of an adequate guitar.

Re: Do you know HALO?

My band is "endorsed" by Halo.

They're decent, but not great by any means & the stock pickups are HORRID, unless of course you like to sing into your guitar's pickups instead of a microphone, in which case you might like them..

;[

I'd put them ( at least the non-custom shop ones ) in the $300+ Samick catagory...except the pickups in the Samick's are WAY better...

Maybe they have gotten better since I got mine last year, who knows..

Re: Do you know HALO?

The one I bought, and returned, was obviously Chinese in origin. I also lost money on shipping both ways. I wouldn't give them $5.

Re: Do you know HALO?

I bought a lefty 7 string V from them on clearance for like, 500 CAD after shipping and customs and crap.

The guitar sucked. Absolutely horrid. had a lefty 7 string trem, with a right handed locking nut. Finish was bad, fretboard was dry as hell. Inside the spring cavity was literally chipped away. Just, a flat out horrible guitar.

I ended up setting it up the best I could, and I sold it on **** the very next day that I received it and made a 300 dollar profit

Re: Do you know HALO?

Yeah. That part kicked ass.

I have some pics of the guitar.

This is the pic I took right when I took the trem cover off. The springs weren't even all attached.

Finish issues. Remember, I bought this new on clearance, with no indication that it would be damaged.

Re: Do you know HALO?

Actually, the 1st guitar they sent me was returned because the bridge posts were drilled off center & the bridge wouldn't move an inch.

It was a freaking fiasco...

When I finally got the 2nd one, it wasn't half bad...at least compared to the 1st one.

But yeah, the fretboard was really dried out on mine too and the setup was horrible. Which is ironic since you pay a "set up" fee that gets tagged onto the total price of the guitar.

I've pretty much given mine to my oldest son...he seems to like it.

He's 6 BTW..

Re: Do you know HALO?

I think a scaled-down picture of that trem cavity would be a great avatar picture.

What I did notice about them is that one of their 7-string models (the natural wood neckthrough with the really phallic-looking horns) is the same kind of guitar that's sold by that "inlaidartist" guy on the 'bay who has a horrible rep for his instruments.

Re: Do you know HALO?

Oh yeah, and they have not clue one what scale length is, nor how to measure it. Their site used to list the 7 strings as 27" scale. The actual guitars are 25.5" scale. When I brought this to their attention, they changed the site to read 26.5" scale.

This turned me off of them, and their guitars, for good.

Re: Do you know HALO?

Doesn't sound good when the band is ENDORSED by the company and the endorsing artists are sent steaming piles!
