Do you think it is a fair/decent trade?

My guitar: 98 UV barely played. Has minor pickguard cracks (a little one)

Trade guitar 1979 strat. White with gold hardware.

I am a strat man myself, and want out of 7 strings...but I have no idea on the value of this guitar.

Hmmm. I don't know too much about Fender values but 1979 isn't exactly 1957, if ya know what I mean. That was during the dodgy CBS era. Probably not worth as much as a newer strat, let alone an old one.

Big risk - unless you can play that guitar yourself you could end up with a 12 lb. boat anchor with sloppy workmanship, second-rate woods and crappy electronics... 1979 was right in the middle of the last-worst of the CBS era cost cutting - I've played five or six strats from that time period ('77-'82), and even owned one for a little while before I learned better (it was old, so it had to be good right? and at 10 lbs even, it was a light one ) and they were all only lousy to fair instruments... I wouldn't touch another one with a barge pole, personally...

Sounds like you could do much better. I saw a used UV retailling for $999. I'd sell the UV outright then buy what I wanted or look for a more even trade.

Keep the UV. If the bridge is what is turning you away, block the sucker. The UV is a better guitar than ALL of those others.

I just don't like 7 strings anymore. I have no use for the low B and it gets in the way. I can't use it as a backup guitar with my band.

I really have NO use for this guitar. I choose my US customer strat over it any day.

If you want a Les Paul style, get an ESP/LTD Eclipse. I am dead serious. You will love it, it's everything to love about a Paul, and nothing to hate.

In NYC that STrat would sell for around $1900.. It is like bizarro world when I read this board. Usually it would be the other way around, no one would trade you that strat for your UV here. There were a lot of great strats from that era and a lot of crap. I had a fantastic '78 hardtail that Iwish I still had.

That's why I like it here! It's a whole different universe (sorry, couldn't resist)

If I relate to the prices over here in Europe.
A UV goes for around 1000 €
a 79 USA strat around 700 €.

In my opinion bad deal.
