Does anybody have or know of this JS-like model?

542R

I have seen a lot of different Ibanez models but only through big outlets like Guitar Center who tend to carry only certain very popular models and certain colors so this (below) seems to be a rarity. I don't use humbuckers very much anymore but I guess these stacked or side by side (I can't see on this pic) should get single coil tones sans hum.

On Joe's video his 2400 can clean up and get enough highs to sound like a bona fide old school single coil pickup in the neck to get the classic Hendrix tones. It seems hot enough to compete with humbuckers, too thus being paired with Joe's standard humbucker. I had a very hot Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder Tele neck pickup but it sounded more like a full humbucker and not at all like a single coil pickup. It had all the power I needed but an awful clean tone. Semi-dirty or full on distorted this Quarter Pounder was great though. During those years I didn't use Ibanez as much but I am sure they can get a single coil experience but with the hotter output due to all their H-S-H models in so many of their guitars.

My guess on how he has the neck dualie wired is that it either has a coil tap, allowing for both coils and humbucking ability but less windings, or a full on coil split so you hear just one of the two blades. I split my full sized humbucker in either neck or bridge and it's close enough to a strat type of tone to work those angles. I don't know of any pole piece type stacked single coil pickup for neck that has enough balls to compete with hot, full sized humbucker. The side by side dual rail in single coil size (DiMarzio Chopper or Duncan Hot Rails) seems to be the best for keeping a balanced volume with full sized bridge humbucker.
