Does anybody know this HAMER model??

I'm going to see this guy to pick up the RG750 I'm buying from him. He also has this Hamer for sale. I think it's and '86-'88 Centaura USA, but I don't know for sure. He's asking $400, but since I'm buying the 750 (for way less than it's worth) he offered me this one for $275 w/original case.

Any help is MUCHO appreciated!!!

Hamer is not my best game, but it looks like you got it right. I have seen '90 models with the same specs - although I have no clue when/if production got moved to Korea. Personally I think the guitar looks cool enough to be worth $300. Easily!

If that is a USA Centaura and is in good shape it's worth far more than that. Usually they go for around a grand. They are fantastic guitars. It should blow the Ibby away.

HaHa.... I'll be seeing it later tonight. Is there any way to identify whether its a USA or not? The owner says he doesn't know the model which does not surprise me at all. He has no clue that the 750 IS a 750. He's selling an RG350DX for more than the 750 because he thinks its an old starter model......... I'm not telling him though.

Pics of the 750:

Re: Does anybody know this HAMER model??

if it's a usa model, it says usa on the headstock in tiny letters near the R in hamer. looks real, i don't remember marble finishes on overseas models, but i cant remember much anymore. if you get it , i would, and dont like the neck profile, let me know. maybe we can work something out trade wise or ?
any way they are great guitars. i just finished a USA Chaparral today and i'm very impressed with the quality of Hamers. nice find.

Re: Does anybody know this HAMER model??

All usa Hamers say "usa" on the headstock in small print. That model is the centaura, the least sought after superstrat Hamer. It goes around the same price of the diablos - around the $400 range. Fluctuation depends on hardshell or custom order. That is a stock centaura. Some are seen with ebony fretboards, boomers, etc., but even then they don't get near the prices of the californian or chaparrals.

The centauras are equal quality to $2000 californians...all handmade. The price lists were equal to the top of the line models during that era. The market just doesn't garner as much interest in them as other Hamer usa models.

Re: Does anybody know this HAMER model??

They are excellent guitars. I have a Diablo. I paid around $500 for it. I would consider $275 and incredible deal.

The much rarer ones are the 'Elites' that came with an ebony board with the boomerang inlays. You rarely see the Diablos or Centauras with this option, while the Chaparals and Californians routinely show up with this option.

I think they all came stock with Duncans. The necks are beefier than my Ibanez guitars and I think the frets are smaller. Different breed of cat from a JEM with a wizard neck for sure.
