Talking Does the Vine affect tone?

Ok the title was...tongue in cheek, but not far-fetched after reading some of the posts here .

What can I say. Some of you obsess about how the vine spoils J Customs. Others obsess about alder vs basswood bodies. Others again obsess about Edge vs Edge Pro vs EZ and whatnot. Or fret end finishes. Or rosewood grain quality. Or what case comes with the guitar. I used to obsess about some of these things, too, and the internet shoves fuel into that fire like nothing else.

I took quite a bit of a break from guitars due to family, work, impeding international move, and so on. But I missed playing enough to plug back in the other day to relax a bit while the house was asleep.

The break really made me appreciate that all this obsessing is just...obsessing. Playing the damn things is so much fun. I am fortunate to have 8 axes at my disposal from different makes (2 Ibbys, one expensive, one cheap), and each has its own good and bad sides. Each has its own tonal flavors, feel, and whatnot. But just sitting down and playing, reconnecting with the instrument, is really what it is all about.

Take a break, breathe in, breathe out, and play. You'd be surprised which things then become relevant and which don't.

(I know, the frets could use some shiny-making TLC.)

Now, if only they made MIJ RGs with offset dots and dark flame maple stain with matching headstock .....

Re: Does the Vine affect tone?

When the vine gets wet, it gets slippery and helps you play faster but no change to the tone....

Re: Does the Vine affect tone?

If I were to set the priorities, I'd go for a fixed bridge option first. That would affect the tone

Nice. Along these lines, indeed. I'm sure the chrome hardware gives it killer tone as well, right?

They do make a fixed-bridge JCustom right now I believe.

Yeah because if it was golden, tone wouldn't be so good.
Don't even let me start talking about black which absorbs sound.

Gee.

That is in fact violet chrome, not regular chrome.

Re: Does the Vine affect tone?

The vine slows me down when I'm practicing my Petrucci psycho exercises. The leaves keep me from reaching the temperature of the sun when I'm doing speed drills.

Yeah, it's actually designed to act as a cooling system for the guitar to keep it in one piece! If you didn't have the vine... People would die, they'd just die.
