Doubt with my Ibanez RG470TI MIJ

I was disassembling my Ibanez when i found out that there's an inscription in the neck (where it fits the body). I can clearly read that it says "RG550R #2". My Ibanez is a 2002 edition, the serial number is F0234137. But I'm pretty sure it is an Ibanez RG470TI

What does it mean?, any idea about the inscription?

Re: Doubt with my Ibanez RG470TI MIJ

this is common. usually its because of incorrect stamping or leftover necks from other models. nothing to worry about. the serial is correct for the year

MIJ 400 series commonly used 500 series necks.

The worst case scenario is that someone put a better neck on your guitar than it came with. I'd rather have a Japanese neck on there than a Korean one.

Re: Doubt with my Ibanez RG470TI MIJ

I've seen this a few times - there are several models where the neck or body is the same for several guitars, the difference being the trem and or p/ups.

Luckily I've only seen the higher model stamp (like in your case) I'd be peeved if I had a 550 with a 470 stamp on the neck.

I also have a 2001 RG470 with a Wizard neck inscribed 550R #2. Seems like they used factory second necks from the 500 series for some of these guitars.

Yes, obviously. But my guitar is also MIJ, there are some RG470 made in Japan, this is not a Korean guitar

Yeah, the early 470's were MIJ. I'm not sure when they switched to Korea...

Re: Doubt with my Ibanez RG470TI MIJ

since 2000 or maybe earlier all 400 series have always been japanese. the only diff were the trems they use. 400 series had the lo-trs trem while 500 series or higher were edge or lopros depending. some 470s were made in korea but mostly japs. they continued making them till 2004.
