Drop Tune String Size Help

I want to tune me RG570 a whole step down to D standard as a lot of the music our band plays is in D Standard. Will 10-46 strings be big enough to provide enough resistance with the trem?

that is fine. 10-46 will "feel" like 9-42 in whole step down. don't forget about the setup, tho. if it has a trem, you will need to adjust the springs. as for the rest of the guitar, you may have to adjust the truss rod, and definitely the intonation.

D standard, as in DGCFAD? 46's are good enough. Definitely. Using a thicker gauge, maybe 48, can make it sound more aggresive and heavier, but 46's for D tuning, IMO, allows you to play easier. So you don't have to get sore fingertips after playing thick gauges for some time

For D Standard, 10's are fine yeah. Any tuning lower than that, and you really will be needing 11's. I like to shove on 11's anyway - that way it gives you the freedom to do whatever. I have never gone to 12's though, I have always felt that 11's were thick enough for me. But its all personal.

For a whole step down, I would personally use 11s, but then I like the feel of 10s in standard so to each their own.

May I suggest 10-52s?
