E Gen

Hello all.

It's been a while since I've posted- used to be Guy Cool now I'm Cool Guy. Pretty fancy, eh?!
Well, I just turned 40, and my amazing wife wanted to get me a nice birthday present...

To cut a long story short, she got me an EGEN!
Apparently the first one in the UK (Thanks to Jon at Guitar Mania-cheers!).
What can I say...it's amazing.
(First of all, I'm not a rabid DF fan, although I do like them, and have a lot of respect for Herman-remember the first UK Jemfest, awesome performer, with a good sense of humour)

I've got other high-end Ibanez (DNA, Floral, RG-Art, 1077XL) but this plays the best-great neck, great pick-up selection, never played one of these slim bodies before, but it's pretty good, and I love the matt purple vs gold hardware.

I am very lucky to have a great wife and a cool guitar. My playing does not justify having them, but I have been playing a while, and have played some real dogs, so I feel I have paid my dues so to speak.

If anyone wants some more info about the EGEN let me know and I'll try and answer questions (I know these things are pretty rare, and I had trouble finding much out about them before it arrived).

If anyone was thinking about getting one but had second thoughts because of the Kung Fu Grip it is actually pretty subtle compared to a Jem Monkey Grip.

Cheers, it's good to be back

Re: E Gen

This thread is useless without PICS! Haha, but seriously, congrats on an awesome guitar. Pics are necessary. I don't think I've seen amateur pics of an E-Gen yet and it'd be great to see some. Macro shots would be much appreciated.

Re: E Gen

Nice score man!

I got a question though. Is the sustain on the E-Gen similar to the S5470? Because parts and construction wise they're both essentially the same guitar right? (besides Edge Zero vs ZR)

Re: E Gen

Regarding the S5470...I honestly wouldn't know, as I've never played one..
But, I know there has been concern about the potential lack of sustain because of the thin body. Now, I'm no expert on these things, but plugged in this baby sings and I wouldn't worry about it.
The pickups are high output with a fantastic degree of clarity and bite. I haven't played around with playing 'clean' too much yet where the sustain might be more of a question, but so far no complaints.

Pics later when I can suss out how to upload them...

Re: E Gen

Can you post a picture of the wiring cavity? - I really want to see the 5-way switch. Congratulations on the guitar and having a loving wife.

Well I didn't mean it like that. I know the S range usually has good sustain and stuff but generally the S5470's have been having a sustain issue where sustain would go strong then just die out. I wanted to know if the E-Gen had something like that. Does the sustain decay naturally? or does it abruptly die out?

Re: E Gen

Seems to be a natural decay, not a lot different to a Jem in terms of quality and duration.
maybe a little shorter unamplified, but amplified and played normally there's not much in it.
I can hold a note for ten seconds with fairly average gain settings, if that means anything...

Incidentally, got my first ding yesterday-only a tiny one, but the finish is matt and really thin-not like clear-coat!
