EB MM JP7 - Anyone played one yet?

I'm getting a JP7 in Redburst (if I don't change my mind again). The Guitar Center in Austin is supposedly getting one and is supposed to call me (I didn't give them a deposit or anything).

I'm dying to play one though. I sure as hell want to play one before I plunk down all that cash-o-la too.

Anyone had the chance yet?

I have read several reviews on the JP forum and heard some samples. They sound like they are fine guitars. People are raving about the tone and playability, but I have not yet read many comments on the trem. It’s a topic that seems to be avoided. I would like to hear more about that.

Well I finally got to play one Bob about a week or so ago.. maybe 2 weeks now.

As far as the trem, honestly I didn't wank on it. I'm not much of a trem person/trem wanker. If I could get a hardtail I'd be ecstatic.

But I did do the obligitory dive bombs and yank on it to see how high it would go etc.

After the initial tuning (no one had played the guitar yet) it stayed in tune just fine. The trem was very smooth and light feeling. Definately a different feeling from the LoPro. Not better or worse, just different. Almost felt like the leverage point was different.

Anyway, I'm sure serious trem wankers would knock it outta tune a lot with out a roller nut of some sort, but for normal use I think it's fine.

I'd probably never put the bar in anyway, just like my UV. Only thing I use the bar for on the UV is changing strings. Hehe.

I'm dying to play one!!!! *I'm about two seconds from just ordering one from Musician's friend so I can send it back if I don't like it. *
Next weekend (8-4-01) I'm gonna be in Houston on buiseness... I won't have much time, but does anybody know of one in that area? *Do any of the stores have them? *(I'd even love to check out a 6 string version). *
Jeffery, how was the neck thickness? *How does it compare to the Ibanez necks in thickness??? *I know they flattened the radius (15" instead of the usual 12")
I keep invisioning a neck thickness like every other EB/MM I've ever been on... kinda thick.
also, what was the price tag on the 7?

Go to the ErnieBall website www.ernieball.com. *Right from the main page there is a link to the Petrucci models and it shows every single guitar they have shipped out and what store it went to. *Alas mine is still not up there

This is regarding the 6-string: *The neck is definitely thinner than the Ibanez JPM or other Ernie Ball guitars I've tried. *It's quite thin from top to bottom. *It feels great with the oil/gun wax finish - nice and sleek. *I would say the neck joint is probably a bit bigger than the Ibanez JPM, but they did try to minimize it's size so I haven't noticed it hindering my playing any.

I played a couple of 7-strings at NAMM and I remember the necks being quite thin as well. *But I didn't have a UV or 2027 to compare it to so I can't really be specific on those without a side to side comparison.

oooo : imo, the neck on the JP7 was thinner then my UV777BK. When I got home and played it, it felt chunky in comparison. Not that this is either good or bad (some folks like slightly thicker necks) this is just how it was.

Man you guys have me drooling all over the place!!!! *

I called Musician's friend to see when they were gonna get some in and they let me talk to their "guitar guy" *he was polite enough to inform me that Music Man doesn't make a 7 string! *That the Petrucci only comes in a 6! *Get this, he tells me that Music Man "isn't that type of company" (to make a 7 string that is)
I let him have it :shoot:
Anyway, moral of the story... don't rely on the "experts" do your own research.

This guy at Legacy Music in Corpus Christi (he ships out of town btw) quoted me $1699 on the maxed out version (inlays, pieazo, mystic dream finish etc).

I probably would just get dots and a different finish though. I'm not into all the blingbling stuff.
