EBMM SUB guitars

So! What's the deal with these Ernie Ball Music Man SUB guitars and basses? Why are they so cheap? What are they like?

haven't seen one yet but i heard they have a regular finished neck, solid color finish only and 1 humbucker.

i wonder if the body is multi piece construction since the sub basses are made from multiple pieces of wood.

You can get them in one humbucker or two humbucker models.

It looks to me like they've just cut a lot of handwork out of the process, making them much quicker and easier to assemble. The painted neck and satin-finished body mean no hand-oiling and waxing of the neck and no time needed to buff out a gloss finish to the perfect shine EBMM is known for. It's along the same lines as Fender's Highway 1 series.

We haven't recieved the guitars yet from our NAMM order, but my shop is selling the crap outta the basses. I bought a 5-stg myself. They sound thoroughly great and actually look freakin' cool. I bought the graphite colored one.

I tried the guitars at the show and they were as cool, but I didn't get as excited. I guess because i was more in the market for a bass at the time...we'll see how they do.

That's from the EBMM website. While you're there, check out the Bongo bass as played by Gail Ann Dorsey.

Hey Twohands...if you want, we have one in my shop right now in the graphite finish. I will take a few pics if you want of the finish closeup. It's hard to tell what it looks like online, but a good hi-res shot might help...lemme know...

It's textured, though not as heavily as the Jem's textured finishes. This is just more of a grainy kinda deal.

Nah, that's ok. I've seen the 4-strings at a local shop and I took a godo look at the finish. They're pretty sweet looking. I was more wondering whether it'd have the bevelled edges like the Stingray 5.

A black one would rock. I can't seem to find any information on the origin of the pickups, so I guess that's another area where they're cutting corners. I'm sure I'd chuck a Steve's Special in there or something anyway.

I just played on one of these at the local store. Exactly like the one pictured a couple of posts up only with a fixed bridge.
I think I might have to get myself one. It plays really good IMO. The satin finish on the back of the neck feels really nice to. Of course, I'd most likely swap out the pickup as soon as I got it home. Not bad at all for a $600 guitar.

hmm...if I didn't have so many things that were higher on my wishlist, I'd have to pick up a hardtail one of those and swap the pickup...

I'd probably swap out the silly fake-plastic-treadplate pickguard for something a little more classy. I wonder what pickup route is under there.
