Ebony top! Interesting...

How do you guys think the new S2170SE with the swirled ebony top will sound? Im guessing that it wont effect the sound at all, judging that the ebony is probly so thin its there for looks only. But just wondering. Never thought Id see the day when Ebony is on a guitar body.

Re: Ebony top! Interesting...

Is it actually ebony? I thought it was just a paint effect? Anyway, about the look of it... I'm saying nothing!

I don't think it is real ebony. That would be hella expensive

Re: Ebony top! Interesting...

it looks a lot like the weird swirl style paint job on the limited edition S models they did for guitar center in blue. Something similar on the rg521 with the barbwire or grim reaper inlays as well. Doesn't really look good in person.

I think it is real ebony, but just a thin veneer (~0.5mm), like on the maple topped ones.
