Edge blocks size

I just changed my block on my 540PII and low and behold, the block is not the same size as my 540P or 565. From left to right 540P/540PII/565.

Weird huh?

Re: Edge blocks size

If you turned them around you'd see the H, S and HS markings in the mold to denote size.

Yeah I knew that, the small has the HS, the medium has the S but the tall one has none.

I was under the impression the the tall ones where used for non recessed Edge models?

The medium block was touching my back plate when I set the action on the 540PII. I now have a brass block with the correct length so all is good.

just interesting to see.

That's cool, I never knew that. I always thought those were makers marks or something like that.

I don't think my '86 block has any marking on it....I'll have to check it sometime.

Re: Edge blocks size

Looks like I'm going to have to order a shorter block for my '86 edge so that it can fit properly on my Yamaha...

Re: Edge blocks size and nut clamps 540P

Another oddity I just found out, the nut blocks(clamps) are not the same size either!!!!

There smaller on the 540P'S. Sixteenth of an inch or less.

LOL

There's always something man, now I have to grind them a bit so they fit, I'll rub off the damn chrome....

Re: Edge blocks size

That super long block was in a 540P? Are you sure? What year is the guitar?

I'm not really surprised that the middle block was touching the back plate on a 540PII. The shorter HS block like the 565 should be correct for that guitar.

Re: Edge blocks size

I have been told the outer lock nut pads from 7 string mij RG's fit the 540p 45mm nuts.
I am yet to try, but I need some for mine.

That is correct. The 42mm nuts like the Voyager uses also use the smaller lock pads.

Well when I got the 540P, the edge was changed for a chrome one and the buyer gave me the original one wich was all rusted and this is the block that was on it, he didn't have the back plate so I'm guessing it was sticking out. It's an 89.

Re: Edge blocks size

Did the "original" trem have the little plate with the two screws that locks the springs in place? If so, it definitely wasn't the original sustain block. Some previous owner may have put a longer sustain block on and removed the trem cover so it would "fit".

No, no screw holes in there.

Re: Edge blocks size

Just wanted to bring this one back up because I found something interesting. I had been using a trem with a short "HS" block in my '87 540P and it had been working fine. I've had the guitar apart having the frets worked on and during that time, I scored a Backstop for the guitar.

Well I was putting it back together today and just couldn't get the tuning to stabilize. I finally realized that the middle spring was dragging on the Backstop. The sustain block is just way too short with the Backstop installed. So I need to find a longer block. I have roughly 8 mm to play with.

The HS block is 30 mm. Can anyone give me the measurement of the S and the really long block?

My black block from '86 is 40.75mm
