Edge II / III Tremolo Won't go Up

Hey guys,

I've got a RG 350 dx, which I got from my brother (when trading some equip).

The thing is - and pardon me if my English fails on me - the whammy bar won't "fluctuate"; that is, it won't let me bring the pitch up. So, i've opened it up and could see that it's hitting the body, the wood inside the cavity, and that's why it won't go up.

So, I ask you; how do I fix that? I have always been more of a fixed bridge type of a guy; even my late ibanez DT had a fixed bridge, so, that's the only damn thing i haven't learned how to fix! lol

thanks guys!

cheers

If you have pics of the problem, that would help.

Is it just a little piece of wood that's sticking out in the route? Or has someone glued in a piece of wood to block the trem?

Right, my apologies for my naivity.

I will try to take some pics tonight and post 'em so you can try and help me with that!

Thanks for stepping up!

Cheers

Re: Edge II / III Tremolo Won't go Up

Hey there, Phil (or anyone else who wants to help!)

These are the pics. You can see that the block is very close to the guitar's body, so it will only go one way - pitch down. If I wanna go the other way (pitch up), the guitar body won't let the block move.

Hope this is more clear! Thanks a lot!

pic 2: all the way down

Re: Edge II / III Tremolo Won't go Up

OK, nothing seems to be holding it back. Is the trem set up incorrectly in that it is not parallel to the body, and is resting on the back of the recessed route?

Re: Edge II / III Tremolo Won't go Up

It's parallel, alright. If you look at the second link, you'll see what the problem is: there's no space for the block to move when pulling the bar.

I'm not sure what the "recessed route" is, but, from the sounds of it, it might be the problem (lol)

Is it possible to scroll the whole thing backwards?

Bear with me, English ain't my first language! Sorry about that!

Thanks

Lee

Re: Edge II / III Tremolo Won't go Up

I bought an RG220 with an Edge Pro II and could not pull up as much as I wanted to, so the solution is to remove wood. Chisel. Dremel. What have you. From your picture, as with mine, it was the area near the trem arm tension adjuster.

Really, you removed wood? This one won't go up a bit!

Re: Edge II / III Tremolo Won't go Up

Phil, I got what you meant, and that's not the problem.

The problem is on the inside, as you can see on pic 2. That's what's holding the whole thing from moving "pitch up". It has space on it's back (if i push on the whammy bar, pitch down, the whole thing moves on the inside backwards, so it has space). If I try to go the opposite way, it will hit on the wood, not letting me go any further.

Is there a way to bring the whole system backwards, away from the neck? (the whole bridge/tremolo system)

Re: Edge II / III Tremolo Won't go Up

Your trem angle is the problem, the top is not supposed to be flat.

Do you have a picture of the trem and its angle?

Hey, Rich... I see what you're saying.. but still, it goes so little, that even if i point it down a bit, it won't be enough.

I tried to draw a little sketch so you guys can visualize what's going on.

Is it possible to bring the whole thing more to the right.

If the trem angle is right that should be a problem.

Re: Edge II / III Tremolo Won't go Up

let's assume the angle is ok; is it possible to scroll the whole tremolo system inside the cavity?
