Edge pro fine tuners question

I must precede this by saying that I have no problem, in general, with FR-type bridges, I know how to use them, and I regularly do set ups for friends and myself, properly and all, and wonder why so many people dislike the design. However, I want to ask and get it once and for all:

How do you use them fine tuners on Floyd-type equipped guitars, and how often? I am asking this because I have this strange aversion to using them. Each time I hear the guitar drift ever so slightly out of tune, I open the top lock and tune. Which is sad, because I do own an instrument that I like a lot, but rarely use it because of minor tuning issues that may show up while double-tracking, etc. The rest of my herd are stop-tails and Gotoh 510s.

So, once I have the fine tuners in the middle position, guitar tuned and the nut locked, do I use the fine tuners? When is it time to open the lock and tune - when fine tuners don't really tune any more? Are they just an aid for correcting very minor tuning issues?

Re: Edge pro fine tuners question

Use them. They actually have a good range and they are the easiest way to keep the guitar in tune.
You only need to open the nut when you run out of room with one of the fine-tuners.
The Original Floyd Rose didn't have fine-tuners and they were a real PITA to keep in tune for that simple fact. (I'm talking about when they first came out.) I think Eddie VanHalen has a guitar or two that had/has those on them. I've seen them in pictures.
The fine-tuner is there to be used. Don't ignore them. They will save you a world of annoyance in the long run.

THIS^^^

There is no good reason to not use them. I will add that setting them up above "middle position" will give you more time til you have to open the nut. Strings never go sharp.

For me, I set the low E fine tuner all the way in. This allows me to go to DropD tuning without opening the nut.

Not only should you use them, you need to. The simple action of locking the nut will torque the strings and throw the guitar slightly out of tune. You need the fine tuners to get it back in tune.

Yeah this ^ I always have to slightly fine tune after locking the nut.

Yeah, that's cool to hear from you that our support group (LOL) helped you. Most of us gear-heads suffer from some minor OCD variation. I, for example, incessantly try to turn the tone knob to 10, even if I know it's already on 10. Still working on this one!!

Re: Edge pro fine tuners question

It's exactly why I've ditched the tone knobs on many of my guitars. Never want to use them, and would have to check that it hadn't been bumped. So I bumped them!

I use volume knob all the time, as I (ahem ) don't like pristine cleans, and to clean up, I jurt turn volume down. As to the tone control, though I like added clarity when you bypass it, to me it's of very little merit as i think it's much more useful as is - to shave off some fizz here and there, etc.

I've been an "everything on 10" player for many many years, but I must admit, using guitar controls adds an entirely new palette of tones
