Edge Pro knife edges

Hey guys!

While restringing my RG2820 with an Edge Pro tremolo it got pulled out of the tremolo posts due to spring tension (I didn't block the tremolo well). Anyway I looked at the tremolo and I'm not sure if the knife edges are ok. One of them seems to be (on the opposite side to the tremolo arm) but the one by the tremolo arm looks weird. It has a concavity and I'm not sure if it's supposed to be like this or if it's all worn out.

What you guys think ?

Re: Edge Pro knife edges

Thats how they are made, helps with intonation or something like that. Go look up pictures of any Floyd style trem online, they all have a difference in their knife edges.

Yep, totally normal. One knife edge is always curved while the other is straight. Here's a pic of a brand new Edge Pro to set your mind at ease:

(I knew I'd one day find a use for that damn FitBit)

oh I see! I did look for some tremolo images on Google but somehow I didn't quite catch some good examples like these! So yeah... all normal then I guess!

Dude, I hate to be the "bearer of bad news", but it looks like that edge has taken some damage. Yes, it's absolutely supposed to be radiused, but the radius should be smooth. Without seeing it in person it's hard to tell for sure, but you may need someone to file it smooth. Your intonation will have to be re-set afterward. Do you have ANY stability problems????

Oh, holy crap, I didn't even bother to maximize the image when I looked at it before. Unless the camera's playing tricks, that knife edge looks like it's taken quite a beating.

Re: Edge Pro knife edges

If there's no tuning stability issues you should be fine. If there is clean up the edge with a file. It should definitely be round though.

Re: Edge Pro knife edges

hmm well I bought the guitar 2nd hand to a dude and it looked like new! Obviously I didn't remove the tremolo before buying it I just assumed that everything was right.. and I didn't find obvious issues with the playing but yeah... I have only tested it acoustically back then and trusted him that electronics were fine (which they are).

I don't know yet if there's tuning stability issues as I'm restringing the guitar to my taste for the first time and I didn't play with it a lot yet but it looked almost like it was still with its factory setup. Action was really good not too high or too low, no buzz... etc. I guess I shall find about this very soon when I'm done adjusting the intonation with the new strings... right now they're still "breaking in" as I have just strung it yesterday

I have a couple of other 2nd hand guitars and to be honest I have never checked the knife edges of their tremolos... but they do go out of tune slightly after a couple of weeks playing but I guess that's normal! I barely use the tremolo anyway..
