The Edge Trem

Hi

Has anyone replaced the Edge trem as on my RG550, with a proper Floyd/licensed schaller.

In ten years of owning this guitar i've gotten tired of sourcing new plastic things to keep the arm steady, and now the arm is so worn out it just flops about and falls out.

Now trying to lay your hands on an edge trem thats new seems impossible, plently of lo-pros and so on, but they still have what has got to be the biggest design flaw - the arm doesnt screw on like on a proper floyd, and they are quite pricey.

So i'm thinking i'd install a classic floyd, in gold (gotta get the bling!)

But i'm wondering if i'm going to face any hassles such as the post holes being a mm out of sync or other such issues.

Re: The Edge Trem

Why don't you just replace the trem arm assembly with an OFR trem arm assembly? Stewmac sells it for about $20 dollars. I'll post the link later.

Re: The Edge Trem

Buy a Schaller trem arm. You have to take the trem out and disassemble the existing arm holder. The take the Schaller one and put it in. It should be a direct drop replacement(at least at mine). If not, it's like 20 bucks, so no big loss.

I thought that but have found that with the schaller arm i bought, the assembly fits the hole but the slight angle of the bridge piece means it wont go right in, and that subsequently you cant screw it in from the underside to secure it with the supplied screw, and slightly longer one leads to looseness, which has lead me to thinking about just replacing the whole thing, or trying to file a couple of mm's off the schallers underside bit see if that helps (which i'll probably try first).

Re: The Edge Trem

Are you talking about the arm wobbles? Just buy new bushings, or another trick I do is to put clear fingernail polish around the worn bushing, let it dry and then pop it in the trem.

Re: The Edge Trem

yeah there's got to be a clever way to maintain the edge arms. much simpler than dropping a whole new trem in there.

Re: The Edge Trem

yea dude, the edge kicks the crap out of the "proper" floyd. the only one that really stands up to it is the gotoh floyd. and thats because gotoh also makes the edge haha

THIS^^^^

I completely agree!!! If you HAVE o switch the arm out I would look into the Gotoh Floyd arm..... I don't know if it's different from the Schaller, but it's surely worth looking in to.......

Re: The Edge Trem

Gotoh Floyd arm assembly is a different shape to the Edge ones unfortunately. I've thought of it before as the Gotoh has my favorite arm, but alas it won't fit.
