Re: EGEN18

I agree about the neck pickup and frets too close. Personally I like the grip on the horn and the scalloped frets. Purple is fine by me. I have an 85 purple RS440.

But the asking price is not worth $2200. There is nothing "revolutionary" are "out of this world style" that tells me it's worth that much.

Gold hardware on purple looks like crap to me. I'd much rather have pewter or silver hardware. Looks classier

And I'd much rather get an SV5470 from Rich with a pro set up for $800 less

The amount of kids at Durham who have parents exactly like this are insane.

Today or go back 20 years and ask the same question.

Re: EGEN18

Oh I most definitely agree JEM's are too much. I mean you could buy a car for some of the prices these things get.

Well that's exactly the point. The Jem was revolutionary when it was new. The EGEN was (is) not.

Re: EGEN18

I'd like it if it was a gloss finish, and not matte.

Re: EGEN18

I never noticed the pickup was stuffed under the neck like that until you guys mentioned it... I wonder what that is about?

Re: EGEN18

Looks like Herman's sig doesn't have that huge trem cavity although it has an Edge Zero.

Re: EGEN18

I think they tried to keep the neck pickup as close to the original spot as possible while cramming in those two extra frets. Wouldn't be a problem to me if the pups were direct-mount, but the ring on there just looks bad.

Re: EGEN18

Waste of time putting two extra frets there anyway, IMO. I bet hardly anyone uses the last fret. I haven't used it for anything significant in 20 years on any of my RG's. And why not direct mount the pickups anyway?

But anyway, yes, the semi-hidden pickup ring looks like crap.

BTW, how does a matte finish like this hold up over time?
