BTW, how does a matte finish like this hold up over time?
Dang Dee, what do you like about guitars? I've been reading your post a lot lately and you are hating on a bunch of stuff. I know it's you're opinion but, man you sure don't like much.

to my experience, they tend to be about as durable as regular glossy finishes, but they are a PITA to polish; i.e. getting out fingerprints and junk. i took Rich's advice from the tech section of ibanezrules and got a fancy 3m microfiber polish cloth and it works like a charm. the kinda rough texture of the matte finish just seems to hold finger oil, dirt, and crud 2x more readily than gloss finishes do.

i'd really like to see somebody grab one of these guitars and re-clear/buff it to a nice shine and see how it turns out. then maybe put cosmo or even straight black hardware on it although, that'd be another 500 bucks or so on top of the cost of an already expensive guitar.

Has anyone ever seen a "from factory" Ibanez S series without pickup rings?

Body too thin?

Don't ask me how they got them in, but the adjustment screws are on the back.

Aww man, it's not hate! far from it. I don't even like using that word. I like and love plenty of things in life. Where do you want me to start, Kotornut!!? I just have good taste man, that's all is. Whether it's music, guitars, clothes, furniture, women, design... I like the best stuff. Hey, look! A thread where I actually express my love!

Are you disagreeing with me when I say the neck pickup ring on the Herman Li sig is a badly thought out design, especially considering 1) the amount of money it costs, and 2) what you can buy for the same money? Rather than complaining about me "hating" stuff, take a look at everyone else around you. Analyze their standards.

I think people are too gullible. Often they will buy into hype and they like nasty, ugly stuff! I accept that everyone's different, I just don't understand them, and sometimes I question them.

Anyway. back to the E-GEN and it's pickup rings.

If they can mount a single coil directly, I don't understand why they'd have a problem mounting HB's. Maybe the rings are just an excuse to add a bit more of that wonderful golden blingyness!

Re: EGEN18

If anyone wants an S body with direct mount pickups they can get an SV.
The EGEN is the way it is because obviously that's the way Herman wanted it.

Re: EGEN18

Yes, fair point. I would change a few things, but meh, not important, I'm not buying one anyway.

I know it doesn't make much sense the first time you read it. I had to have the term explained to me by some suburban white boy who thought he was street cause he listened to hip hop.

"Ill" is the street version of the much cooler term "sick".

Now that you mention it I remember hearing "ill" used in a DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince song. Although when Run DMC said You Be Illin', it was a bad thing.

Re: EGEN18

Ill = Good.
Dope = Good.
Wack = Crap.

Danny, obviously, you don't know anything about hip hop. But that's OK, we'll let you off.

I wouldn't personally describe Sam Totman's guirtar as "Ill", though.

Re: EGEN18

Regarding the neck pickup of the EGEN... I do think it would have looked better if they removed some of the excess wood after the 24th fret, so that the fretboard wouldn't overlap the mounting ring.
