ESP Custom Guitar??

Okay, I've spotted this guitar :

according to the dealer they think it was built for an ESP dealer before it came into their hands. I'd just like some thoughts on if it's a real ESP Custom or a sheep in wolves clothing.

Thanks!

Re: ESP Custom Guitar??

the esp site has a pretty good forum for posting questions as some of their tech support people are active members and could probably find out.

Re: ESP Custom Guitar??

Thats basically an MH-1000 with a blank fretboard, I know cause I did the exact same thing to mine only with a Wilkinson. My guitar looks identical to that except it has ESP on the neck to headstock contour on the back and the hardware is chrome. It looks so close to my customized guitar it feels less special to me now! Even down to the blank headstock on the front. O well nice guitar, but mine is better cause the neck is natural for that butter feel. The back covers look suspicious cause they usually use two for EMG setup guitars. I'd need it in my hands to really tell.

Re: ESP Custom Guitar??

You found that at the Ishibashi U-Box didn't you??

That's actually not a completely real ESP. It's a guitar ESP made for someone else and it's an OEM guitar that was essentially a batch specially made for some jap brand. Not a true ESP custom as it would have had an ESP Custom logo on it, rather it's just a spinoff model from their Edwards production lines. Kinda like the special edition BATMAN, PEACEMAKER and DORAEMON guitars they have.

It's still a great buy, if you do get it let me know. I'd like to see if the wiring on that is exactly the way I do a mix of active and passive pickups.
(looks like an EMG 89 in the bridge, EMG SA in the neck as well as a Duncan Cool Rails, and before anyone says that's BS because you can't mix active with passive pickups, well you actually can.. just with funky wiring)

Yeah that's where I spotted it, so it's likely a limited or a one off then? That's still cool by me, although I'm not sure how much of a deal their asking price is. I'll investigate some more before deciding on it.

Re: ESP Custom Guitar??

If I recall, those were relatively cheap by ESP standards. The price Ishibashi has on thier site for this isn't bad since it was originally around $900-$1000 new. It's really a limited edition as it's not quite a one off guitar. I believe it was based off one of the ESP Japan Artist signature models with the mixed passive/active electronics.

(Speaking of limited edition guitars, I'm somehow tempted to buy the ESP Doraemon guitar)

I mean it's almost as funny as Bumblefoots foot shaped guitar. Oh well.. I know I'd only play it for gags.

that's not such a good price if they really were originally $1000, that said in comparison to H-1 models it is a real deal. I've emailed them saying I'll buy it so hopefully when it turns up I'll be really pleased with it.

Oh and I saw the Doraemon guitars, I was tempted to buy one aswell :P
