Question ESP LTD F-200

My friend brought over his F-200 he's looking to sell... I'm going to set it up for him in the coming days. The only concern I have about it so far is that a very noticable popping noise occurred from the nut when the licensed floyd was depressed. On a side note the trem was VERY stiff for only 3 springs; it just needs a nice workout to loosen it up.

I looked at Rich Harris' website... I didn't find anything related to "popping from the locking nut." Does anyone have any insight and/or remedies to this problem?

Re: ESP LTD F-200

Popping noise? As in when ye use the trem right?

Check the wear on in the slots, check the bolts for stripping too including the things that keep the strings in place (i forget the term), you could also check the screws that keep the nut in place.

Try using the trem when the string locking things are off, start breaking down the problem.

Anyway LTD guitars tend to have the worst licensed trems i have ever seen.

Oh really? I think the licensed floyd is superb compared to the Edge III in my RG4EX1... Says a lot about the Edge III, eh?

I forgot to mention... The high e string was broken at the tuner... The locking nut was holding it in place(and almost in tune). He's going to drop it off so I can set it up for him... I'll get some pictures and work done.

Re: ESP LTD F-200

I had the same problem with my RG.

Literally all it needed was a tightening of the screws at the back of the neck and it solved it completely.

Its a simple solution and you may well have already tried it but I just thought I'd mention.

Hmm, will try on the next restring... I believe the d'addarios on my RG attest to their quality... 3 months and still sound/feel great.

Okay, reread what you said... The popping sound was clearly coming from the locking nut... But I will still tighten the neck screws, just in case.

I think he means the two screws at the back of the nut, or front as it probably is in your case.

Thats is true

I got my money back because the trem saddles were out of alignment and when I sent it back he said all of the trems are like that and I pointed out that if you check the alignment of the saddles there is a problem there

The edge III after days of fine tuning can actually be far more superior than whats out on the market for those prices
