Evolution of the S540's specs (87-99)

What I've noticed :

- At first they used little switches for the pickups, then they used a 5 way switch
- IBZ/USA pickups, then IBZ/QM pickups (are they different ?)
- Switch from edge to lo-pro
- Apparition of the custom inlay at the 21th fret (which btw I find rather ugly and useless)

Can you help me date those changes (when did they occur ?). Are there other changes that were made to this model between 87 and 99 (colors aside) ?

Also, is it possible to relate the IBZ/USA pickups to other Dimarzio Pickups ? Maybe the humbuckers are very close to PAF Pros for example.

Thank you for your help

Re: Evolution of the S540's specs (87-99)

switch change was early 88ish,best way to get exact time line is to visit the catalog archive at ibanez.com.
IBZ/USA F2/F1 pups better than QM IMO,yes they are Dimarzio and are closely matched to Tone zone(F2) and Breed(F1),sweet pups for mahogany.
Edge/Edge lo-pro change over was just a natural hardware progression and occured 92ish,again check archive.
I like the cm inlay,it occured late 89ish,again,archive.

+1 for the best quality (in my ears) of the F1/F2
but the most noticeable is the versatility of the combinations (Q serie or F serie)

bridge pup rages, combinations Humbucker splitted/single coil twangs (pos 2 and 4)

neck pup (Q or F) is not my glass of whisky - better a Mo-Joe (the best I've tried for the moment - waiting for a BK Nailbomb)
