Explorers - who's best?

I think I'll be getting a new axe at the end of the year (hey it's never too early to start looking :P )..for now, I think I just need a good rhythm hardtailed guitar. I've been drooling over the Gothic Explorer for months now, if it looks anything like in that Gibson's pic....

Generally, who makes the best Explorers for the money? I'm looking to spend no more than $600. What about those ESP JHs?

Thanks.

If you want something new and inexpensive, try one of the Hamer Import Standards. Not a bad guitar - set neck, explorer body, flame veneer top and GC is blowing them out at $349, I think.

If you have money, get a USA Hamer Standard Custom.

I was going to say something about these Koren Hamers myself. There are a couple in a guitar shop here in London and they look to be amazing value for money. Change the pups and I reckon you'd have a great guitar for not much money.

I think Lewis and Clark were some of the most underrated explorers, I mean I realize that they had an indian guide but the helped to map out a large portion of the U.S..... wait... this is about geography... right?

those are the infamous 'lawsuit' models. ibanez did copies of the whole gibson line, and the phrase 'better than gibson' was coined.
sadly, i've never played one.
