Eye on RG470 MIJ but..

Hey there i joined this site to ask a question i had regarding a Ibanez RG 470 H-S-H with a trem, now i love ibanez guitars and have always wanted a MIJ, JEM, or a Prestige model simply because they are usually built better and play better, anyways my question is today i was a local music shop they had a used fairly beatin up Ibanez RG470 now at first i was turned off by its physical condition so i kept browsing i noted the price at 149.99 i thought to myself that was a little steep for a guitar in its current condition, i had large sections of paint broken off which means it was probably a stage guitar and was dropped a lot, it was missing the black switch selector knob (not a big deal they are cheap to replace), and the controls looked worn and yellowed, so as i was saying i came back to it and saw it was a MIJ model so i figured what the hell i plugged it in and started jamming, the pickups where a no name plain black type but i am pretty sure it was one of the original MIJ models, it played great once i tuned the strings with the fine tuners it stayed in tune, it felt really solid, fast neck, wide range of tones, the floyd was setup correctly was flat which honestly i would probably block it anyways since i don't really care for floyds and the hassle of retuning em and setting them up. So basically it looked like crap but played great, my main question is based on this info and the price is it worth it? 149.99 that is? Should i try and talk em down on the price a little, i could always refinish it later and replace the missing components. What say you?

If it plays awesome, and if it may have some aftermarket pickups bargain them down a little. Should be able to get a good deal.

Yeah it did play great and sounded good as well, i was thinking closer to 129.99 would be reasonable for the state it is in. I'll have to go back tomorrow and see if its still there. (Probably will be *fingers crossed*) My only issue i would have is the shop has only a 2 day money back 14 day store credit return policy and that makes me nervous.

149 for a mij ibanez???? There's really absolutely nothing to complain about here. If the neck is damaged then don't buy it. If its in one piece and playable... buy it....

No actually the neck is in great condition no cracks or gouges a few minor dings and such but nothing major. Sounds like it might be a steal then.

Anything under 300 for a decent condition MIJ Ibanez is a "good steal" in my opinion. 150 for sure is.... Sounds like a player is all, no harm in getting it dinged up.

Re: Eye on RG470 MIJ but..

Ok so i picked it up today i sat in the shop for a good while was really looking everything over, i decided to look up the serial number on it to see if i was a real serial and a real guitar upon looking up said serial turns out it may actually be a vintage 1987 RG 550 instead of a 1993-1996 RG470 looks like someone didn't do their research on this at the place before putting it out for sale ill take some pic.

I think it went from a steal to a down right robbery imo. I have pics but cant post them yet. Not enough post on the board.

Wow, even better! Get some pictures up those so we can confirm. If it's a 1987 it'll have square neck heal.

Rg570??? There's no difference between a 470 and 570 from that year besides output jack. Routing and the heel isn't shaped.

RG 550, by the looks of it. Small rear electronics cavity for the jack, and I'm guessing a pickguard. Good find!

Wait a minute, what? They had a RG550 marked as a RG470 for $130? What a deal, even if it is a stage guitar. Congrats! ^ ^
