I havent scanned in a picture yet but the new PRS Dragon 2002 is fantastic

I will sort a pic out ASAP

It is NOT cheap though and only 100 will be made, I think it is 25,000

I saw 2 in person and was *not* impressed. In fact one of them had a large crack in one of the inlays.

Man, they've really ruined the Dragon. That just goes a little too far, it is so damn ugly. I used to think they were pretty cool.

Well like so many guitars, they have gone the way of the cookie cutter approach again....

They use to be works of art on the fret board where each one was an individual artist effort and not mass produced to fit the molds....Shame they will make a fortune off of them but people will snatch them up like a buck off the sidewalk..

Yeah...I saw the same two that Rich saw, at the booth at NAMM. *I agree-not terribly impressive. *You'd think that they'd have nothing but the absolute BEST of quality on a piece like that. *Especially for the NAMM Show! *But...aside from the cracked inlay work, they're just a bit too much. *They've gone overboard and come up with a cheesy, gaudy instrument.

gaudy, that's the word I was looking for. Hell, even the fretboard only dragon stuff was borderline. But I still liked those.

But this 2002 totally looks terrible.

Gaudy?

Have you guys looked at just about every JEM ever produced?

Neons? Pyramids? Swirls?

Basically, PRS has singlehandedly proven that there is, in fact, such a thing as TOO MUCH inlay work. *Yes, the abalone, etc. is gorgeous. *Yes, the design is interesting. *Yes, I'm sure it took a LOT of time and effort. *It's just too much of a good thing! *The first 3 Dragon's were nice...they progressively added more and more inlay work (I think the number of pieces doubled the first few years?) *But...they've breached the realm of good taste. *It's just...tacky now.

I say you've crossed the line when you need "fossilized mastodon ivory" on your guitar... *

Actually, fossilized ivory makes a GREAT sadle or nut! *Very nice crispness-especially on a nice high-end acoustic like a Martin or Lowden. *But...it's sad when it's used strictly for cosmetic purposes. *I can see bridge pins, saddles and nuts, but...dragon's teeth on an overly-ornate inlay? *Kind of wasteful!

did you actually click on the link for the 2002? That guitar makes a Jem look as mundane as a Strat.

The Dragon guitars really are art pieces... they're meant for collectors to put in glass cases. And like all art, its appreciation is a largely subjective experience. I kinda like the 2002 dragon. I wouldn't play one, but if it were in a gallery, i'd stop and admire it for a few minutes before moving on.
