Cool Re: Fender Eric Johnson Signature Stratocaster

What's the big deal? Hasn't Johnson always been acclaimed for getting his tone out of a 100% Stock strat? If that's the case, what's the difference between the EJ Strat, and a Standard Strat?

Re: Fender Eric Johnson Signature Stratocaster

From the Fender website... lots of differences from 'standard' strats.

Quote:
The Eric Johnson Signature Model Fender Stratocaster guitar is built from some of the finest materials available. The light 2-piece alder body is dressed in a very thin nitro cellulous lacquer finish, and the 1-piece quarter-sawn maple neck sports a 12 inch fingerboard radius, 21 highly polished frets, and a soft "V" neck profile.

Additional features include staggered vintage style machine heads, thus eliminating the need for a string tree, custom pickups with countersink screws and wound to Eric's specifications, and highly contoured body and neck.

It comes with a parchment '57 style pickguard, 5-Way Switch, Master Volume, Neck Tone and Bridge Tone controls, and a Vintage Tremolo with 4 tremolo springs, silver painted block and '57 style string recess with no paint between base plate and the block.

Re: Fender Eric Johnson Signature Stratocaster

Really about time... No offense, but I never got the point of throwing a Hendrix Signature on the market - especially taking into account that the guy at that time was a long time dead already.
Oh, and wanna make a bet that the thing's gonna cost you an arm and a leg ? Better save up for this then: http://www.vintageamps.com/eric_johnson.html

Re: Fender Eric Johnson Signature Stratocaster

Regardless of the actual guitar (which is sweet IMO), Eric Johnson deserved a signature strat for a very long time, so I'm glad he finally has one...

Re: Fender Eric Johnson Signature Stratocaster

The talk on the Fender boards (with a couple of posts from some Fender employees) is that this guitar will be part of the production American Vintage Series and retail for around $2300, which means you will probably be able to get one for around $1600. That seems reasonable to me since it has alot of unique features.

I'm not even much of an EJ fan, but I have to say that the specs on this guitar are very appealing to me. Also, I've read in many different places that he used some custom wound DiMarzio pickups for a long time. Who knows, there is alot of mythology surrounding EJ and his "tone."

I heard that EJ put some Dimarzio's in his '59 LP reissue.

I am just saying that it is about time that they gave somebody the honor who actually deserves a signature. I am tired of seeing these power chord freaks getting signature models. (Noodles, Tom Delonge, John 5) The list goes on and on. SO YEAH BOUT TIME THEY GAVE IT TO A VIRTUOSO!!!!!

Uh, have you actually heard John 5 apart from with Manson? The guy is definitely a virtuoso.

To speak of the guitar, it looks killer and i'd bet it sounds killer. The specs are great as well so i may be buying one...

I agree, John 5 is most defenitely a virtuoso! His album is pretty awesome - and he confirmed that his skills were being wasted with Manson. The album is crazy though....with all those Banjo Rolls and Country licks! Very good player.

Re: Fender Eric Johnson Signature Stratocaster

I don't see a signature on the headstock?

DP15655- Are you saying Hendrix does not deserve a signature model?

Are you saying he was not a virtuoso?

(he starts to load large caliber ammo)........
