Definitely looks like an old charvel. The spyder trem is merely okay. THe fact that its so hard to find now is just a major turnoff, but I like the fact that it has alot of mass like the edge, so that has to be a good thing, and the bar attachment is pretty cool.

It's kinda the "Fenderized" wizard. Its not as thin or wide, but its much more thin and wide than a strat. The beck of the neck is very flat. I love it.

oh man... all this HM Strat talk is really making me drool! There are a couple on ebay, but they're not in good shape, and i'm sure they're gonna be overpriced. gotta start trying my luck at pawnshops.

Yeah, you can find a really good one for around $400. (This guitar was sold at $1000 when it first came out!)

for all the guys with the japanese ones with kahler spiders... i have a blue splatter usa hm strat body that was routed for a FRO. just swap the parts and get a FRO and it's on like a pile of neckbones. i have the original neckplate and cavity cover plate with the film still on it...even the "f" knobs. let me know if anyone wants it.

man, these were great guitars!

my second guitar (first was a maya strat copy) was one of these - in the same blue as the pic you posted, but with a rosewood board.

god, I loved that guitar.

unfortunately - and I mean that - this is the only pic I have of it. urgh... that was 1991, please forgive me...

but they rock! 44mm at the nut, dimarzio super3 in the bridge plus finder s/c's! how far wrong can you go!

cheers,
--c.

Re: Fender HM strat

I like these guitars but I hate the trem, had a white one with maple board I had to let go of because I was not feeling it...

Re: Fender HM strat

Congrats on a great guitar and welcome to jemsite.

I had one of these for a while and I absolutely loved it. A very competent well rounded guitar and not as extreme as some of the more focused super strats. The trem was pretty good, and the neck was excellent.

I traded mine in for a Jem, and I wouldn't say that I regret it, but I would definately buy another.

Re: Fender HM strat

Fender HM's go for $ 500 used on Evilbay. Great value for the money!

I bought mine in 1992 very cheap because of the grunge wave at that time. A hot pink one with a maple board.

It's currently swirled by Alan:

Re: Fender HM strat

great guitars. i happen to work on many of them, there are lots here around, and they are pretty good guitars. after all, they were build in the FujiGen Gakki factory.

Re: Fender HM strat

On my way out of town from Miami-( late eighties I guess ?)I played a Neck Through HM Squire-like an HM5 or HM7-it was basswood with maple non figured cap and it had great resonance and sustain but Stratlike unplugged, it was only like $400-gave them a hundred told them to hold it,figuring I'd get better pickups put on and have a killer neck thru Strat.

Well when I came back -it was gone -they gave me my money back but I still wonder about that guitar-it was really cool
