Fender Squier CV 50s vs 60s Pickups
I know from the literature that the 50s CV Stratocaster should have alnico III pups and the 60s CV Strat should have alnico V pups. But why are the pups labeled the opposite? Opposite to me anyway. So get this...
The first four characters on the sticker on the back of any 50s CV pup read: STA5
The first four characters on the sticker on the back of any 60s CV pup read: STA3
The next character is an N, M, or B, for neck position, middle position, and bridge position respectively.
I figure "ST" stands for STratocaster.
So what might the "A5" and "A3" stand for?
Anybody else for "Alnico 5" and "Alnico 3"? That make pretty solid sense to me.
But the 50s CV sticker has STA5 on it and that guitar is supposed to have alnico III pups. And the 60s CV sticker has "STA3" on it and that guitar is supposed to have alnico V pups.
What's the deal? Anyone have an idea?
