Finally finished customizing

It's took a while but I finally finished customizing my 550, 770 and JEM. The 770 has taken the most to complete. Starting with the 1990 RG770FM. Gold hardware with a Lo-Pro. Dimarzio 5-way and black top-hat knobs. Pickups changed to EVO neck, FS-1 middle (soon to be IBZ/USA C2), and FRED bridge. Also scalloped the 21-24 frets. I don't know why Ibanez doesn't scallop more guitars. Much easier to play up top and effortless bends.

Next up is my 1990 RG550 in mint condition. Changed the pickups to a 2008 RG770DX set of F2/C3/F4 pickups and knobs and Dimarzio 5-way switch and tip.

And last is minor changes to a 2002 JEM 7VSBL. I think it should have been built like this to begin with. A white truss cover to match the pickguard and white top-hat knobs. I painted the letteing and numbers with metallic blue to finish it off.

Re: Finally finished customizing

Sweet... I'm not really a big Jem guy but there is something about the blue vines that does it for me..

How does the 770 stack up against the Jem and 550.. I am kind of a 770 nut but like to hear what other owners say about their 770's

Re: Finally finished customizing

I love the 770. Super thin neck and the pickups are quite different. Had to back the EVO off to match the output but is has more low end and brightness than the fred. I still like the fred. It has tons of harmonics but just enough of a difference to make a good match to the EVO. Not really thrilled with the FS-1. It's too thin and straty sounding and non-hum cancelling. It is the heaviest if the 3 also. The scallops did increase the sustain in the upper notes also and is is so much easier to play. The 770 is my main guitar but is losing ground to the JEM. I'm thinking of having the 770 refretted with 6105 wire.

Re: Finally finished customizing

I like the Blue RG550.
I'd put a Blue Mirrored pickguard on it.

I like the factory B/W/B guard. Not a big fan of mirrored guards. It would look too much like the '92 550DX. Anyway, don't you know the hot chicks in the front can't see you when they're blinded by your pickguard!

Yeh, it may block them from seeing your armadillo too.

Re: Finally finished customizing

Thanks fellas. In the end, sound and playability is the real beauty. Nothing like a "golden age" Ibanez!

Re: Finally finished customizing

Love that 770, and especially the pickup colors! I've been trying to figure out which colors would look best in my similar 570 CTAM. I was about to dump in some purple DiMarzios, but surprisingly--I don't like the way they look with the finish. I may go with gold covered pickups.

Re: Finally finished customizing

Don't go gold covered, simple black/cream zebra is the way to go.

You're reading my mind! I'm sitting here looking a black/creme DiMarzios right now...lol!
I thought about the gold earlier, but thought it's look too "blinged out." I want class, not bling!
