These are the models currently available. Secondhand, well, that's another story.

Not sure what jcustom.com is. I looked it up and it's custom motorcycles. Explains why the black onyx wasn't there.

Question Re: Finishes which isn't at jcustom.com??

Hehe, I was referring to the jc section here at jemsite.com

My point. F.ex. I have seen a 8570MVV. The "strange" thing is that when I look at the 8570 here at the JC section, the only finishes available for the 8570 is VV and NT...!

So you see, my question still stands...

Re: Finishes which isn't at jcustom.com??

Yeah I think you're confusing yourself with the various JC models plus i'm not sure what F.ex means?

Anyway, the RG8570 (with rosewood fingerboard) came in DR (deep red), NT (Natural), TT (transparent Turquoise) and TV (transparent violet) - Here I'm going by the 2004 J-custom models. In 2005, Ibanez renamed it the RG8170F and downgraded it wth a Non matching headstock, dot inlays (not offset) but added Vintage Violin (VV) Black Onyx (BX) and Transparent Blue (TB) to the line up, If i remember correctly.

The RG8570M came with Maple fretboard, (hence the M in the coded name) and the guitar came in two colour schemes: Vintage violin and Transparent blue which si why you could be slightly confused.

The RG8670 in 2004 came in various colours, Transparent Blue, Transparent Red, Transparent Violet, but at the near end of the year, they released Black Onyx and vintage violin colour schemes. In 2005, Ibanez renamed it the RG8270F ~ Unlike the 04 model, it features non matching headstock, rosewood fingerboard (opposed to the 04 Ebony fingerboard), and 5 pc maple/walnut. The new 05 model now continues Deep Red, Transparent Blue, Vintage violin and Black Onyx discontinuing the Transparent Violet.

Mainly the JC now comes in Transparent Blue, Deep Red, Black Onyx and Vintage Violin. The discontinued colour was Transparent Violet. If I remember, a Japanese site sells a Vibrant PINK [very retro] and a green RG8670 (or 8270F with matching headstock). So there are other colours aorund which aren't mentioned on the official Ibanez website. Whats wierd is that they don't even show your models like the RGT320Q and various USA models on the Japanese website.

Yeah I guess, but usually Japan has a larger production line than the USA (like in '04) plus it seems like their JC line was downsized, and their prestige line (RG3270, RG2770 etc) but maybe it's the other way this year :P

Thanks Artificial

Cleared up a bit, although I really miss a complete J-Custom website including all models (for every year) and finishes etc..

eddie, that is seemingly impossible as ibanez doesn't want to publish info on J-customs outside of dealer channels in JPN... glen

Re: Finishes which isn't at jcustom.com??

But there's official J-Custom dealers in the UK now so an English language J-Custom Website would be good.

Artifical:

I noticed you said the 8570 was DOWNgraded to 8170, to a non-matching headstock.
Why does that mean its downgraded? I can understand a downgrade from neck-through to bolt-on, but not from matching to non-matching headstock. I just dont see the "negative" side of it...?

PS: what does off-set mean?

Re: Finishes which isn't at jcustom.com??

I think 'Artificial' is refering to the fact that they seem to make a 'one neck for all' (or at least one for the 6 strings and one for the 7's) J-Custom neck and i'm not sure but i don't think the construction is as intricate and detailed as it has been in past years. Not sure if the necks have the flame-maple binding and stuff any more or the veneer on the back of the headstocks. All the nice little touches that went towards making the J-Customs what they were.

'Offset' means that the dots are not central on the fretboard.

Some people, like me, would see that as a downgrade
