fixed bridge models

So I'm planning on getting another fixed bridge guitar and weighing my Ibanez choices. I really liked the SZ4020 that I had a few years ago, but it was just too damn heavy to play a gig all night with. I also do not want active pickups and do want 25.5" scale. From what I can see my current production model choices are:
  • RG321
  • RG351DX
  • RG471AH
  • RG921QMF (premium)
  • RG3521 (prestige)
  • FR

I also noticed mention of the RG1451 in these forums which looks like a good option. Any other non-current models that people can recommend? I'd like to keep it under $500 if I can but I don't want a piece of junk either. I've heard mixed reviews on the lower end RG's.

Re: fixed bridge models

Not sure if this would go for under $500 but the RG3271 Prestige is an AWESOME guitar. One of the older models but rare as hell. Yeah, not really a lot of options for you. Ibanez has always been a tremolo-oriented company.

Maybe a used MTM2? Those went for about $700 new and have the Fixed Edge III bridge which, while being a varient of the Edge III, is still a VERY good bridge.

Oh, the RG3271 looks sexy. It looks like it was only released on Japan for a year? Might be hard to come by.

The MTM2 has active pickups. A fixed Edge bridge? Weird.

Re: fixed bridge models

Yeah the Mick Thompson models have the fixed edge like the rga 8...the rg921 has the tight end bridge

Re: fixed bridge models

Anything is lighter than the SZ4020. That thing was a beast.

Re: fixed bridge models

Used RGA121's are great.

Older MIJ SC's are also great. However, the SC's have a scale length slightly shorter than the RG's (25.1 versus 25.5) and the necks are thinner in width and fatter. Some people claim the feel like PRS's. SC's sell for cheap on the bay so you could always pick one up to try.
