Fixed bridge recommendations

I've got a ~$500 CAD budget for a guitar. In this price range I can't get a prestige and after trying a few of the lower rg trem models I saw myself getting really annoyed at the tuning issues they have.

Given the limited selection on fixed bridge guitars from Ibanez, I really only have two options.

i. RGR421EXFM
ii. RG321 + pickup replacements

That is, unless someone can find me RGT42FX (so very annoyed that it was just outside my price range, awesome guitar) in Toronto, within my budget.

Opinions on which one would be better? If the latter, which pickups would you suggest (keeping in mind my budget here). And also, does the reverse headstock on the RGR421 make any difference besides aesthetics?

Playing style is mostly metal or heavy rock. Haven't decided on an amp yet.

Re: Fixed bridge recommendations

Check out my recent thread on my new RGR421EXFM. There's a few pics in there. It's an incredible guitar. The build quality and hardware is better than the 321. The finish is beyond incredible. Your jaw will drop when you see it in person.
Pickups will need to be swapped however. I doubt you will love them. So, you may end up spending a bit more to get the 421+new pups, but you will end up with an excellent guitar w/excellent pups, rather than a good guitar with excellent pups. Other than the pickups, the 421 plays amazing and the reverse headstock doesn't really make any difference besides aesthetics. You may find it a bit annoying to tune at first, but you'll get used to it quickly. I didn't find it annoying at all.
I don't know what your amp budget is, but I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend a Roland Cube if you are going to be playing metal and hard rock. Go for at least the Cube 20x, but the 30x would be ideal.

Here's the thread:

If you would like more pics of it, I will gladly post them.

Re: Fixed bridge recommendations

I liked my RGA121, but I am a trem guy at heart so I sold it. But, if I had infinite finances, I would get another, it is cool to some styles.

I can ask you a question... Why the heck aren't you considering the SZ series from Ibanez? Either an SZ320EX or SZ520QM would fit your budget nicely and should meet your needs too.

Go check 'em out if you haven't already!
