Found this for $30......

Found it on craigslist about 5 min from my house. It's a early to mid 90s Hamer Slammer. Now....before anyone starts bashing the slammer series, the early to mid 90s hamer slammers were made in korea and from what I understand from the hamer guys is those are great guitars. The later model slammers that have the big slammer name are indo made and are considered junk. The early to mid 90s slammer, on the head-stock, has Hamer in big letters and slammer series written under it in smaller letters. Guys, these are great guitars. Nice thin neck. Mine has 3 single coils, factory roller nut, alder body (i believe) and a floating/recessed trem. 1st, lets talk about condition. Was a ----10 on condition. Worst conditioned guitar I've saved yet. Rust and dirt and whatever else galore. The bridge was completely disassembled and cleaned. I stripped the body, sanded to 220 grit and applied 3 coats of tung oil and leveled the finish with #0000 super fine steel wool. I sanded the back of the neck to 220 and did the same finish on that as well. I had an old dimarzio hs-3 and put that in the bridge. The only think that makes me mad is that the factory filled a mis-drilled (i assume) pickup hole directly in front of the bridge. Oh well for $30 I got a great guitar and had fun saving it. Turned out great.
Here are some before pics....

Thanks man, best thing was, I had all the materials to fix it up. When we went to look at it, I wasn't gonna buy it but my wife told me I should (can you believe that? our wives telling us to buy guitars.... lol). The hs-3 is super bright and the low output gives it a very clean/transparent distortion sound that will still do pinch harmonics, though you have a much narrower spot on the string as to where to get them. I'm still working out the g string returning sharp when using the trem, I my need to work the roller on the nut as they were all stuck. Might need some locking tuners in the end......

I agree with the clean up as being great therapy. It gives me a break from working on cars all the time. I work on them for a living and then on my projects at home. Right now I'm working on a 69 amc amx. As far as the jack, I'm curious how long it will take for cables to go bad with the bad bend it makes when going down out of the guitar.

Just loop the cable up through your strap to take the strain off of it, like the pros do on stage... The Ibanez JS guitars have an angled down jack as well, but no steel plate like the Hamer. Very cool guitar! Congrats and nice job on it!

Re: Found this for $30......

I don't fly the flag too often, but I am one of those "Hamer guys" and the Korean Slammers are indeed nice guitars. You did way better than good, and your effort turned that back into a sweet axe. Congrats!
