Fret quality on Prestige neck?

Hi guys.

I'm new here but have been lurking around for a few yrs.

I have been enjoying this great forum very much! Thanks for having this Jemsite!!

Erm, my question is, beside the obvious quality construction of the neck and body, does the prestige neck comes with better frets?

I mean are they like stainless stell or something?

I'm asking because I'm looking to pick one up. But I'm quite heavy-handed, so the frets on my old guitars get worn out fast. And I dun want to have to refret an expensive guitar; to me at least.

So how are they?

Oh, If someone else have posted this question before, I apologise.

Thanks!

welcome to the site. mostly the same frets (Dunlop or Warmoth types - size dependant) but just a better dressing/finish than the previous "non-prestige" MIJ & now Korean axes.

no jumbo-type frets will last forever w/ a heavy hand ... glen

Hey, thks for the reply!

yah, heavy handedness is a bad thing on nickle frets. I guess I really have to go gentle on them, like gently caressing them instead of grabbing, hehehe

maybe in future Ibanez will go stainless steel? The extra cost shld be worth it! I really like those smooth, "indestructable" feel of it. Really slick!

Thanks!

Yesterday I saw a Parker Fly with stainless steel frets at my local store. It was used and quite beaten up, but that frets were SHINING like brand new! I think that this could be a great pro for stainless steel: it doesn't collect oxide.

I ocassionally use stainless steel strings as well, they really hold there clarity and punch for a while, without going dead and breaking after 4 gigs

I'm gearing up to do a somewhat-custom guitar and it's going to have stainless frets. My only experience with them is on a couple older Parkers that I played, and I was quite impressed.

About the stainless strings...I would stay away from them unless you're using them with stainless frets. For the same reason that stainless frets last so long with normal nickel-steel strings, stainless strings will eat nickel-steel frets. A guy I know was using stainless strings on a brand new Jem and I couldn't believe the fretwear on that thing after only about a year.
