Get a PG autograph on my 20th or not?

Hello to all, this wednesday for the first time Paul Gilbert will be in my country, that is very rare oportunity because none of the guitarists with that quality plays live here, I'm looking if I can obtain his signature on my 20th RFR back plate, since I do not have a PGM and Paul himself advertises that RG, I don't have plans to sell it in the near future, but my question is, one signature or autograph can reduce the collector value of my guitar?

Maybe will be better if I can get a second hand 20th back plate and keep safe the signed plate, but I think that I'm are the only one in my country (Venezuela) that have one, for me this is really a one time chance, so, anyone have a 20th back plate for sell?

Sorry for my english

I wouldnt worry about it ruining the value if it's on the back plate, but if it's really a concern just pick up any back plate and have him sign that.

yeah, that's lot easier to do. And if you don't like it (why wouldn't you?!) you can always replace it.

I don't think the RG20th is going to be a great collector axe, since there are nearly 2000 of them. If you can get Paul to sign it, and that appeals to you, then go for it!

Unsolicited advice: get him to sign the back of the headstock, the best place to avoid rubbing off the signature.

PS: Paul is really nice, I'm sure he'll sign whatever you want!

Good advice here. I'm not sure how collectible the RG20ths will be in the first place. And unless yours is untouched, never played, I wouldn't think about it that way. I got my DY last week and am a big Gilbert fan, I would certainly have him sign it if I had the opportunity.

Well guys, job done, Paul signed my 20th, I can't believe how good looks his signature on the back plate. Paul is great, he was tired but he was agree to sign my guitar and a CD booklet, and some photos with me of course.

The question is, what can I do to that signature to last forever???

Sorry for my english

if you still have the pen. Take the back plate and the pen to a somewhere that can get a clear coat sprayed. Make sure to test it on something else first because some clears can dissolve pen ink.

Yup . . . take that bad boy off, frame it, and hang it on the wall. It's not that collectible of a guitar and the plate looks great!

i use some kind of plastic to protect the back plate... some kind of glued plastic... that may help you...

Re: Get a PG autograph on my 20th or not?

if you can find a thin sheet of clear plastic(thinner than the back plate), you could try to make a secondary plate to go on top of the orig. if you use the orig plate as a template for lining up the screw holes, it should be pretty easy.

Re: Get a PG autograph on my 20th or not?

Paul is such a tasteful guy, I like where he signed it, most other guys would have signed it across the plate over the RG20th logo.

I would order a new plate and take that one off so you don't have to worry about messing it up. I pulled two of my three plates off my RG20ths for safe keeping. I decided to keep the RG20th plate on my DY since the only other replacement plate I have laying around has Jerry Cantrels signature on it which I would rather keep that one nice over the RG20th plate. I do have a basic plate with Steve Vai's signature on it on my BLK but he signed it with a black sharpie so I'm not to concerned what happens with that one. The signature is not coming off at all with all the playing that guitar has been getting over the past few months other than small scratches.
