Sweet,,, need pictures as soon as you can. I've never seen one without the ugly ass rounded edges. If Carvin would just bring back the V220 and UltraV,,,,then to push it over the edge and make em both available as 7 string... "SPLOOGE".

I've been to Carvin's site just recently, they have some sweet axe's. A buddy of mine has one. If I wasn't playing Ibanez I would be playing Carvin. The action is perfect!!

How long until you get it? I want to see pics. That reverse headstock is going to look sweet!

Well, since it will take about 5 weeks to get the order complete and the guitar built about another month-month and a half.

I was going to get a Carvin DC 127 or 135 at one point but they don't offer the OFR on the lefty models... so I didn't. They are nice looking guitars though.

Re: Getting A Carvin DC127 Soon - What Do You Think?

congrats!
i've always wanted a solid koa version of the 127 or 135. i am really digging the new line of California guitars - their answer to the PRS.
i think their quality is spot on but i hear a lot of people complain about their pickups and say it is not an easy swap to replace due to some size differences.
please let us know when you get her and post some pics.

It can be fairly easy or somewhat difficult depending on what you want to put in. DiMarzios aren't too difficult to get in (a little work on the pickup, no work on the body required). Apparently some pickups can be a bit more troublesome and require some wood removal. I think their "Carvin pickup only" routing is kinda silly. I know they want to sell their stuff but pickup swaps are pretty much S.O.P. for a lot of players and trying to limit what you can use probably costs them more than it gains them.

Did you make sure you chose the active electronics option?

Re: Getting A Carvin DC127 Soon - What Do You Think?

I've only heard good things about the Carvin 6 string pickups, it's the 7's that are a bit on the lame side. You could consider getting their distortion humbucker in the bridge though, if you're going to be playing metal. I saw Joe Walsh with the Eagles about 2 weeks ago and he played a stock Carvin for 1/3 of the show. I love my 727, it's a fine guitar and it was a fantastic price for a US made neck through. I think you'll love the guitar when it comes. Good Luck with her!

Re: Getting A Carvin DC127 Soon - What Do You Think?

You might see if you can try the Allan Holdsworth pickups. I heard they worked closely with Duncan to replicate the old Duncan Holdsworth pickup. Since Carvin's only weak point (if there is one) is the pickups, the Holdsworth pickups seem to be Carvins "best effort"

Just my 2 cents.

I'd love to get one of those Carvin Holdsworth models, especially the hollow one (the fatboy?). Hmmmm.....
