Re: Gibson Custom Shop Glue.. really??

That would explain why Gibsons cost more than Fenders.

Re: Gibson Custom Shop Glue.. really??

The argument is that Hyde glue dries much harder than PVA glues, and thus transmits vibration better.

Who knows if how much (if any) of that has a real world difference, but the vintage geeks love it.

Re: Gibson Custom Shop Glue.. really??

Heck, my sound changes when I flip my hair from one side to the other, or if I'm wearing a short skirt vs. a long one vs. pants vs. jeans.
I won't even get into differences between tight tops and 'comfortable' tops.
And if I put my glasses on? OIY! I may as well be playing a different guitar.
It's all placebo, I'm sure. Give someone two guitar that sound pretty much identical and tell them one has 'this' and one has 'that' and they'll say they can hear a difference.

Re: Gibson Custom Shop Glue.. really??

I've been reading through the same Sweetwater and was kind of shaking my head a bit at the Gibson Custom Shop stuff. Not saying hide glue specifically, but there are a lot of materials and techniques that Gibson abandoned decades ago for totally good reasons, such as durability.

I can understand why these could be desirable today on an actual vintage instrument, but why would anyone spend their insane custom shop prices to get this? Ibanez should offer up white guitars with vintage extreme yellowing clearcoats.

Re: Gibson Custom Shop Glue.. really??

Gibson isnt the only manufacturer that says this. Most ultra high end luthiers use hide glue.
