gibson es-333

anyone played one? freaking amazing.

when seeing them in catalogs and magazines, i always thought they looked kinda ugly, but then i saw and played one in person, and jesus, tone for days. it doesnt have the thick polished finish that the es-335 has, which i guess allows it to resonate more and its pickups are hotter. every sound i need just lacerates out of this guitar, and its $1200 (opposed to $2200 for the es-335 and all u get for $1k is a pearl inlay headstock, covered pickups, and a pickguard).

ill prolly purchase in a month when i get my early tax return back, ill post picks. i strongly reccomend to anyone looking for a semi-hollowbody.

If you get a chance to check out an Ibanez AS200 between now and buying the Gibson, do that, too. They are also versatile and bit nicer feeling than the 335 ( they're a little smaller and have that beautiful Artist neck and fretboard). The AS180 is also right there, having only cosmetic differences from the AS200. If you can't try an AS200, you can also try the JS100, which is the newer more expensive iteration of the AS200 but with the same body shape, neck, and pickups as the AS200. It's just a lot more money due to it's being an endorser model (John Scofield's).

yea, that jsm100 is a nice nice guitar. the neck doesnt agree with my hands too much tho, thats the only problem, and that tailpeice looks a little suspect.

i dont care much for scofield tho (all my buddies bust my balls becuase they say im the only jazz guitarists who doesnt like sco acutally not true because a go go is a sweet album) and maybe that adds to why im shying away from it. that and its too purdy, im kinda mean to my guitars, wait till my digital camera comes and i post pics of my epiphone joe pass, its pretty beat.

I guy recently sold a 333 on ebay that had the finish buffed to a gloss, upgraded pits/caps, and pup covers...looked great. Seems like a pretty good deal, but like Jim said, the Ibanez (and Yamaha) alternatives are worth a look.
