Absolutely. You can also enjoy sweetened iced tea, overpriced automobiles and a reputable opinion on hockey.

And Sunday brunch at Eggspectation on Boulevard De Maisonneuve in Montreal

Seriously though, this sort of name calling nonsense is out of line, and infractions have been handed out. Stay on topic now or more will follow.

If you're referring to that thing on page 2, that ain't it. Although I do believe that one was used by Page on the Black Crowes tour.

Here's a link to it: http://www.gibson.com/robotguitar/index.html

First off, it's $2500 (list) not $12K or whatever nonsense people were talking. As I read through the details of it, I think it's a great idea. Not sure I like the color but it says regular productions models in late '08. The self tuning/intonating is cool but I like the idea of being able to jump around tunings with a click of a knob. Yes, I know the VG strat has that but it left off the most important alternate tuning for me - Eb! And with the LP, you can customize the tuning presets, you're not just stuck with the ones they give you.

Assuming everything works as it should (we shall see), I think it's a great idea - especially for a gigging guitarist.

Re: Gibson robot Les Paul...

i just dont like the look of those les pauls to me their supposed to look classic not like a damn piece of a space shuttle! yeah i guess its a good idea if your parents are really rich and you want a guitar that tunes itslef for christams so you dont have to learn. but then again most guitarist like that, if you can even call them guitarists, learn how to play smoke on the water and then it its in the corner for the rest of its life. les paul is thinkin to "outta the box" on this one im with 'Sick-Boy' on this one!

Re: Gibson robot Les Paul...

I thought it was going to be a Buckethead signature model.
Still cool. I'm not a fan of the LP style, they look nice, but I'm used to the Edge trem setup. Just the way I swing. Cool concept and I think it's a rather minimalistic installation instead of the Performance version that routes out the whole body and lord knows what else.

If I won one in some kind of raffle, I'd play it for a while.

So, does that make it cheapest Les Paul then? Every one I see in GC is thousands more than $2500 (though GC seems to only ever have burst copies anyway...)

Re: Gibson robot Les Paul...

I agree that they could have made it look a little nicer. That blue-looking burst makes the guitar look awful. I'm partial to the honey-burst myself.

Tuning a guitar by ear (from a single reference note)helps develop your ear, and helps you bond with the guitar, in my opinion!

Re: Gibson robot Les Paul...

I guess people don't bother reading.

1. It does more than tune itself! Read the whole link.
2. It will be offered in other colors and models in late 2008. Also mentioned in my original post.

Re: Gibson robot Les Paul...

Imagine spending that much on a guitar only to have your mayes take the p*ss out of you cos you can't tune, intonate or remember open tunings by yourself.

It'll never catch on
