Re: Gibson Shred X

I heard about it before. I think it's some kind of explorer( that's probably what the "x" is for). Other than that I know nothing.

Re: Gibson Shred X

GOOGLE MOTHER****ERS, DO YOU USE IT?

The FIRST damned result is the guitar this guy is talking about, go and have a freakin look.

That said - Threadstarter - Right now, I wouldn't recommend gibsons, and that kahler bridge is a no-no too, for a lot of people, so I'd say not worth the money.

Re: Gibson Shred X

It's the second result on my google search. The first was for a paper shredder.

And there is nothing wrong with Kahlers. A lot of people just don't like the feel. Give them a try, you might be somebody who does.

As for the guitar...shredding guitar typically don't have "Classic 50's rounded profiles". I stopped reading about it at that point.

Actually the kahlers DO have a number of flaws. They don't return to pitch as reliably, they're harder to maintain, you have to solder your string ball ends etc etc. Theres a BIG thread about this in the gear section.

Re: Gibson Shred X

If i were Gibson i would have chosen the SG as the platform for a shred guitar. It already has great upper register access and a light/thin body with great lines. All it would need to enter the shred realm is a slightly thinner neck, two more frets, and some sort of double locking trem.

I read that thread. Actually I was one of the first to comment. Floyds have just as many flaws as Kahlers it's just different flaws. It's all personal preference.

From what I understand, if properly setup, they actually return to pitch better. They're not any harder to maintain. Sure there is more stuff to setup but some people (obessive freaks like me) would view that as a good thing. You can tailor it to you more. And The soldering is pretty much a wash with cutting the ball ends (or end of the string off if you load the balls at the top like I do). That little bit of a soldering job on the top three strings should take less than a minute if you have any experience with a soldering iron.

Now don't get me wrong, I love floyds (all my trem equipped guitars have some form of edge on them) but Kahler makes a quality product.

Re: Gibson Shred X

Shred-X; isn't that like a failed attempt at posting a picture of a shred guitar?
