Re: Gio fun

Why wait if he doesn't need to, he never said anything about not having the funds to do so. He could have a Jem and a beat up guitar that sounds decent for practicing...

Re: Gio fun

Another Agent chimes in...

When the Jem arrives, either keep the GIO for backup or sell it to recoup some cash. Good pickups at $70 each; replacing two humbuckers would cost more than the guitar is worth. You'd never get it back out.

Re: Gio fun

I'm in two minds about this. Yes you can wait for the jem but lets say you mainly use the bridge pickup, replace that with something better and all of a sudden you got a new guitar. But yes ideally you'd replace the pickups and tuners.
Personally if it was me, i'd hang on to it and save for a second hand Rg550 or rg570, then sell your guitar and use the money for pickups. You already have good hardware on those so just worry about PU's

Re: Gio fun

Put a pair of GFS pickups in it. They're pretty good for the price. I got mine from e b a y and put them in myself (in a cheap les paul copy).

Since GIOs will probably have pretty high action, you can probably do some work to improve that.

Sand the neck to a satin finish.

Depending on what electronics are on it, you can probably replace those.

Tuners

Swirl it!

Re: Gio fun

Wow, you're going from GIO to a Jem? Rags to riches, eh? That's quite a jump!

Is the GIO your first guitar? If this is the case, I wouldn't make any changes. I'd just keep it as-is for sentamental value. I still have my first guitar!

Re: Gio fun

Yes the gio is my first guitar, thats why i was only thinking of doing stuff to it but i'm not sure. I think i'll swirl it, if i can figure out how. :-)

I was thinking, could I add a jem bridge to it????
