Good profiled 7 string

is there a narrow 7 string necked guitar? I'll put it like this, I dont like RG necks, because I feel like Im holding a paddle in my hand. I dont like telecaster necks, because I feel like im holding the business end of a baseball bat.

I've only dabbled on 7 strings once in a blue moon, and all seem to have 1 or both of those problems (exacerbated by the fact its a 7 string).

UV's are too wide but I love the profile.

Im thinking its the nature of the beast, but hoping someone has a solution for me

I'm thinking 7 strings are not for you

Re: Good profiled 7 string

Yeah it's sort of sounding like 7s may not be your thing because UVs are pretty much standard width / string spacing for a 7. The only thing I can think of that I remember owning that was narrower were the limited run of 7 string Epiphone gothic les pauls... and that neck was a bit rounder than a UV so you probably wouldn't have liked it because of the profile.

Sounds like you have tiny hands. Try an SG.

No actually. I have pretty big hands, XL gloves are a good, tight fit Wide necks just never felt good to me.

I love that profile on that crazy 8 string purple monster, but Id have to play a 7 string variant of theres before I went nuts and had one made

The default profile on a maple necked KxK Sii-7 is pretty similar to the old Ibanez UVs. The profile on my Sii-7 was really close to the profile on the 2 PWHs I had for a while.

i just dont think I will ever be able to get into them. I may try to make my own some day. thats probably the only way I can get that done to my satisfaction. I REALLY want that B string though.

Re: Good profiled 7 string

Just a random idea I came up with, probably won't work out so well.

Go to Warmoth, check out their 'Extra Wide' neck. It's ridiculously wide(but not as wide as a 7), for people with sausages for fingers or 'people looking to add extra strings'(I assume they're talking about a high A rather than a low B). Then you can talk to a luthier and see what they can do for making you a neck that's not as wide than a 7.

Once again, just an idea. I haven't done any research into this whatsoever.

Re: Good profiled 7 string

See if you can pick up a cheap squire 7-string. I have the neck off one on a 7-string body I built, and the neck is a bit narrower and rounder than an Ibanez 7

Re: Good profiled 7 string

Just buy one. You'll get used to it. And I'm not being a smartass. It May take a week of playing it but you will get used to the extra width.
