The Great Guitar Hunt

Well, I've scored very good results for a major local examination (I managed to score 7 out of 8 As, the B being for religious studies), and my dad (being the wonderul father that he is) has offered to buy me a guitar. I'm after a guitar that has all these:

Mahogany body
Super-Strat shape
24 frets
Top-notch trem system (either floyd or wilkinson type bridges).
Preferably around the $1000 US range
And preferably maple boarded

So can any of you guys pinpoint me to a guitar that fulfills these requirements? I'm currently looking at an RG2120X and 3120 (both sellers haven't replied yet) and an Edwards Horizon model. Thanks in advance.

Said it in the last guitar hunt post, say it again in this one...

www.carvin.com

Check out the DC127, sounds about what you're looking for and fully customizable.

I would go with Carvin, but living here in Malaysia might make it much more expensive. I'll check out with the local dealer though.

I was hoping to get something of more 'class' than those. But I'm not saying that they're not classy, though. I might be going for an Axis. I've always been a big EVH fan and I like their look. I don't really need 24 frets, so add a tone knob and a trem cavity and it's perfect.

Have you considered an Atlas? They're in your neck of the woods, so to speak.

Re: The Great Guitar Hunt

The new Musicman Pettruci F1 will be coming out soon.

Although it is not a mahogany body, it has the "secret" mahogany tone block that runs from the neck pocket to the trem that is supposed to add greatly to the sound.

Also, it is 24 frets, and has a very nice and user-friendly trem.

This might not be up your alley, but I thought I'd at least throw it out there.

Other than that, you could consider a Jackson Soloist SL2H-MAH. Hard to get those right now, though.

Re: The Great Guitar Hunt

I might be going to the US around summer so I think that I'll have a better choice there. For now, I'll just keep browsing ikebe and ishibashi.

I've just sent them an email for a price quote for a custom superstrat.

Re: The Great Guitar Hunt

What do you all think about this?

Except that it's a 24-fretter with a plain maple top.

Re: The Great Guitar Hunt

Looks nice, IMO. I'd wait maybe a month or so and see what all is going to be out there on the market.
