Angry Guitar chipped by my in law!

I am absolutely fuming...

I have managed to keep my strat anniversary reissue 50's clean and mint for last 14 years.
Yesterday my mother in law thought it would be a good idea to move it around as she wanted to clean around it...she leant the guitar "very gently" against my cornford amp and the result was a massive chip on the neck heel.

When asked what the f*** happened so told me she did nothing and the chip must have been there already and it could not be seen when playing!

I should have battered her with the guitar! I know it's out of proportion but I love this guitar and I do my very best to keep my gear mint.

Fuming!

Unfortunately she's scottish so I know she won't offer to pay...

A suitable punishment would be to play God save the queen by the pistols everytime she's around.

So you guys think black nail varninsh could be used to cover the chip? The other idea was to get the same sort of paint you get for plane models.

I do like scots actually, I was only teasing. With my wife being half scot / half welsh I have to be pretty open minded...

LOL! I really shouldn't laugh but that IS funny.

Well, now that your guitar is dinged, you'll probably be more likely to play it and not worry about keeping it "cherry" (seriously!). I've bought most of my guitars used, and they often came with scars of various sorts. One of my guitars actually had its headstock broken off and subsequently repaired. I bought my Jem used, and it has some corrosion and scuffs here and there. My very first guitar I accidentally dinged within one week of owning it(!). It was very annoying when I got that first ding, but after that, no worries. And the same for most of my gear, rack rash, stretched ears, and scuffs.

Just thought I'd offer some sympathy.

Re: Guitar chipped by my in law!

Mothers do that type of thing. If it ain't how they like it they go and clean and reorganize everything.

Then you spend the next 2 weeks trying to find all your stuff. And when you ask them where they put it they don't remember.

Re: Guitar chipped by my in law!

Why the hell was your mother in law cleaning your digs anyway?

Man, that's the kind of situation that makes me glad I have a lock on my "studio".
I tell my wife it's just "security", but it's really so that her mother won't come over and arse up all of my gear.

Red face Re: Guitar chipped by my in law!

The big question is why wasn't this very valuable and personal guitar in it's case?

All of my guitars are either in their cases, or hanging on a the wall in my music room which always stays locked...

Don't be angry by someone who had good intentions, and made a mistake. Take responsibility for your carelessness in the matter by not insuring your guitar, you love the most, was in it's safest possible place. The fact that she might be a Scottish pain in the @ss who only has half a brain, is even more reason why you are at fault for leaving your prize out when a moron comes over...

My Mother-In-Law is an absolute senile nightmare...so when she (really anyone though) comes over I am prepared for the worst...
